AM on FM

I have noticed quite a few translators springing up on the FM dial lately.

94.3 is doing WRHI Rock Hill
103.3 is doing WGIV
104.3 is doing WHVN

The interesting thing is 103.3 and 94.3 are in stereo.

92.9 is doing WAME in Statesville...Not sure if it is stereo or not.

I would not run stereo. They would get out better in mono.

It's been a year or maybe 2 that 550 WAME has been running the 92.9 translator, and the last time I was through there it was stereo. Interesting that "what goes around, comes around" -- I'm 99.9% sure that the 92.9 antenna is atop the WAME tower near Signal Hill Mall. This is the same tower that held the antenna for 96.9 WOOO until around 1980 at which time the signal increased on a much taller tower in SE Iredell County, and the station became WLVV, WLVK, WTDR, and today's WKKT.

The antenna must be on the side of the tower. I was told a couple of weeks ago they moved it to the opposite side of the tower. Now I can hear it in Mooresville on my car radio pretty good.

I would still turn the stereo generator off. Making stereo uses 9 percent of your power. I would want that power to help me on the fringe. Most people couldn't tell if it was stereo or not.

I would like to see more translators pop up in smaller areas, especially where AM stations must sign off at night,
i'm not sure how this new "low-power FM" law will evolve, i think it's mainly for community groups to get on the
air, but there should be a movement for more "low-powered" AM's in places like Rock Hill, Charlotte, Statesville
and others to have a chance to be on a better signal on FM.

You're missing an intermediate step. When they became WLVV "Love 97" they built a tower closer to Charlotte, but it wasn't tall enough. They weren't getting a good signal into Charlotte. Whether the one they have now is that one I'm not sure, but they added a lot to the one they are using.

The first tower they built is less than a mile from here on Rinehardt Rd in Mooresville. Think it is 500'. They had antenna issues.

When Capitol in Raleigh sold to Capitol Alabama they built a 1000' tower on Shearers Rd in Mooresville. Later the tower was increased to 1500'...
