AM POWER UPGRADES

Both 1430 and 770 on the AM band have construction permits for power increases. Does anyone know if they have powered-up yet?

Haven't heard about 770 (WEW), but 1430 (KZQZ) has been "testing" on and off for sometime. Don't know what is taking them so long.

WEW is in terrible shape technically right now - no audio processing, totally shot ground system, an intermittent audio hum, and other issues. As I have heard, Sima Birach just got the CP in an effort to try and sell the station. Whoever buys it will likely have to start again from scratch it has degraded so bad. 15 years ago that signal used to be heard to Kingdom City clearly during the day, but now listening to it in Western St Charles county can be a stretch.

The nighttime power is still 5000w. However, they have been know to keep the daytime power on after sunset.

1430 also got in trouble last year for leaving their daytime power on after sunset. That is what I suspected a couple of years ago
when I was able to hear the station in Columbus at Night a couple of years ago. I did enjoy listing to them at night and they did acknowledge on
the air the DXers that were listening to them back then.

This is what the FCC told them(KZQZ) leaving their daytime power on after sunset:

Also, this thread forgot about KQQZ on 1190. They also have an active C.P. for a power upgrade: http://www.radio-locator.com/info/KQQZ-AM

They appear to have gotten their power upgrade there. KZQZ and KQQZ are owned by the same group...and they aren't real concerned about playing by the rules. I've picked up KQQZ clear as a bell late at night some nights, and not so much others. Granted, I live in the town from Insane Broadcasting's offices, but still you shouldn't have that much variance in an AM signal at night.
