Okay, now that I have my first new car in 20 years ('13 Camry LE Hybrid), my fancy shmancy car radio needs 6 AM stations! I don't know what's available anymore, especially since that OKC market history website disappeared. What do you recommend for my presets? I guess I'll add that comedy station that has been mentioned in another topic...

Think back to the days when AM radio was dominant - the days of WKY and KOMA in OKC and KAKC and KELI in Tulsa. Music formats had yet to catch on FM and most everything was live and local.
I very seldom listen to AM any more, certainly not the syndicated crap that is on most of the time these days.

I was actually listening to KTOK Tuesday afternoon (waiting for the severe thunderstorms that never really happened in OKC) and was surprised to hear a station that really didn't sound half-bad to me. I don't listen all the time so I don't hear all the times they fail, but they had a live and local host in afternoon drive, were doing local news, traffic and weather.
I wasn't blown away, and they didn't sound like New York City or Los Angeles, but they weren't the nightmare I've heard them described as on this board.
Did I just catch them on a really, really, really good day? Or have my expectations fallen that far?
I agree with Ionosphere: thank goodness for 89.5 KWGS!
KRMG had a story this evening with snippets from listeners regarding how they were preparing for the storm, and it included statements similar to, "you just have to be prepared."
In another newscast, the news anchor said wind wasn't an issue... they then went to a guy in the field who said "the first thing you'll notice is the wind..."

Hey, thanks for the nice words about the 'Big 89'. We won some awards from the OAB and SPJ this year. I really enjoy working with the kids. They make it fun, are eager to learn and ACTUALLY like radio. Like Stan, I miss the old days of Tulsa AM. AM radio in Tulsa pretty much stands for 'All Mexican' now. I rarely punch over there any more. Sad. Steve Clem's book on KAKC brought back a flood of memories. Great book if you get a chance to buy it.
