I spend huge chunks of time listening to the radio. Drive times are the only time the radio is turned off. I just can’t stand all the commercials. It makes radio sound cheap and is an insult to the listeners. Why can’t radio stations get together and raise the rate card? Think of OPEC. If I am behind the wheel in my “Jetmobile” the last thing I want to do is be distracted by changing the station. If all the stations break at the same time (and they do!) I just get real mad. Nobody is in a good mood during drive time. Make matters worse it’s always the same !@#$%^ commercials with no regard to listener ship. I also can’t stand commercials that come in hot with a loud noise, music or other distracting crashing effects. Older people love AM radio and they just don’t need the shock from every break. Over time it dulls the senses and makes them turn away from radio, not towards it. Like a pesky fly they will try to get rid of it, using a CD player or Ipod. Producers need to stop being lazy, and on air talent must put the foot down and protect listeners. I have written about this many times before. My car radio has died and I will not get a new one. Remember I like radio. I compare it to TV. I was a long time MSNBC viewer. I liked the honest reporting and fair coverage. Now that they are number one they ruined the station with an obnoxious amount of commercials. Now I watch Fox news. As much as I hate them, it’s better than watching commercials. Here is the solution; you need to get after the sales staff and tell them radio isn’t cheap. You need to cancel bad radio ads from agencies. With time the advertisers will understand the problem and provide more money and better quality radio ads. Pull from the rotation any radio ad that runs two weeks or more and send it back. Have a new one made. I don’t want to hear the cry baby crap about how hard it is to sell radio time. Stop giving away “freebees” on the weekends. In spite of the impression that weekends are just a bad time with few listeners, you may be surprised how many listeners tune in on the weekends. At night time I listen to WBZ 1030 in Boston, especially on weekends. That is because New York radio is UNLISTENABLE due to all the pre recorded programming and infomercials. You all need to be more self confident and stop selling out cheap. Sadly for you, the success of Jack Fm is not only the music rotation, it is also the low commercial content. Set new standards and prices for commercials. I did and it worked out very well. If you expect me to work for your station, (if I ever will) you had better have enough money to pay me well. You don’t keep good talent on low pay. Add to that inflated gas prices and cost of living in New York and you have a big problem. Sometimes persons with a hidden agenda will make the way in there. For example the “Conservative Communist” gun grabber Curtis Slewa and others. I wonder how much money he gets from China to stay on the air. Don’t be fooled. I also hate all the “mob talk” I have a very ethnic sounding name and when I visit out of state or country I am stereotyped based on my ethnicity. Remember Hitler did the same thing in world war two by stereotyping Jews as being involved in corruption and crime. Do we need another blood bath? In the beginning the concentration camps were all out resorts with people writing home how wonderful the government was and they got more Jews and others to go there. Could our own government be leading to the same thing? That’s another topic. But remember it all ties in together. You take money for government commercials and you lose the station. That’s a tough topic to cover. Don’t get caught in a rut. Don’t fall for a diversion, when the real criminals are in Washington and Albany. The current racist drug prohibition is feeding criminals just like the prohibition of 1929 fed organized crime. We are setting up for a national disaster that makes New Orleans look like a pee in the wind, compared to all the sufferings in the prison state and plantation society we currently live in. That’s why there is so much racial hatred and hatred for the police. Remember it all ties in together. Instead of writing back some hateful remark, just spend some time with your listeners and listen to what they have to say. Otherwise you may lose your station to some phoney government sponsored church. Trust me on this, it CAN happen! It has happened in the past!
