This is the most dominant KXNT has ever been. They basically have as much share as every other AM station in Las Vegas combined! Since much of their gain has been in 55+ it's fair to say that many of the old 104.3 KJUL listeners migrated to AM 840.
I am surprised that KDWN got no boost from the 104.3 format change. Yes, KDWN is a poor radio station for all the reasons that have been discussed on this board through the years. Still, KDWN is known as a "babysitter for old people", especially for shut-in types. They are one of the few talk stations anywhere that caters to the 75+ audience, yet they have actually gone down since the 104.3 flip.
ESPN 920 KBAD has replaced KDWN as the #2 rated AM station. KBAD is just tenths of a share away from beating Lotus FM sister station KXPT, 97.1 the Point. Although one thing to keep in mind is that this trend covered most of football season (including postseason), usually the best time of the year for sports radio.
Speaking of sports, SPIKE 1140 is moving in even more of a sports direction with the addition of Tony Bruno. Maybe this will help them steal some audience from KBAD? At this point, SPIKE could use a ratings spike since they are barely showing up at all.
Speaking of no-shows. I don't think AM 1280 will ever show up at all with their 24/7 syndicated talk lineup. I said it before and believe it more than ever, Scott Gentry should consider simulacasting KJUL's standards format on 1280. With 104.7 doing surprisingly well, if they could add a couple of shares on the AM (not unrealistic for an AM standards station), the AM/FM simulcast could hit around a 4 share and actually make the overall top 10. Yes, it's old demos but getting anywhere close to the ratings and revenue that the old KJUL had would be very nice for a small operator like Summit.
