AM radio

what are the hours for AM daytimers only? i noticed by 4:30 or so, 1050 out of crestview is gone.
is it sunup to sunset?

-Rob

Depends. Some daytimers have a pre-sunrise authority which will let them sign on - at lower power - at 6AM. Some also have a post-sunrise authority which will allow them to stay on past sunset for a short time, again at lower power. There are also daytimers that are licensed sunrise to sunset only. In the winter months, daytimers licensed to sign-off at sunset shut down as early as 5:30 in these parts... as early as 4:30 up north.

Also many AM daytimers were given authorization to operate full-time with greatly reduced night-time power levels. However, a true daytimer is limited to Sun-Up to Sun-Set operating hours...

I think WJSB has authority to broadcast at night with something like 10 watts, they just don't waste their time since they have the FM simulcast. I'm still trying to figure out who still has the AM only radio in their tractor that keeps WJSB on the air. Anyone know?

From the FCC record for WJSB:

Monthly Local Sunrise Times
January 6:45
February 6:30
March 6:00
April 5:15
May 4:45
June 4:45
July 5:00
August 5:15
September 5:30
October 5:45
November 6:15
December 6:30

Monthly Local Sunset Times
January 5:00
February 5:30
March 6:00
April 6:15
May 6:30
June 6:45
July 6:45
August 6:30
September 6:00
October 5:15
November 4:45
December 4:45

Isn't the information for authorized flea power nighttime signals buried so deep that no one could find it except the station owner? I may be thinking of one of the Defuniak Springs stations, but I really think that WJSB was given authorization for a couple watts at night. When cceng climbs down from his deer stand, he'll set me straight.

what's the deal on that station? this area has 10,000 country stations. is the owner going to sell or keep it going?

each station's license (which the parameters can be found at the FCC website) will always have the night power listed.....Rob, there are not 10,000 country stations in this area....hell, not even in the US.....it is not of you effing business what a station programs that doesn't cover your area....see, there is this little thing call CITY OF LICENSE....WJSB is not licensed to Navarre, it is licensed to CRESTVIEW .....WJSB is in Okaloosa County....I think, and PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.....that Navarre is in SANTA ROSA county.....you need to be worrying about the programming of SANTA ROSA county (if at all).....a radio station can't be all things to all people...those that do, fail quickly....especially in today's economic environment... again Rob, you have gone out on a rotten limb and started sawing it off between you and the tree trunk....Tibbs can you help out a brother here?

WJSB is licensed for 3.1 kw daytime. The FCC site shows no night power listed.

it's a figure of speech saying that we have too many of them in this area. i really did enjoy when 104.1 was an 80's station. (WYOK?)

if we lose 1 or 2 country stations for perhaps a jazz or a variety station (in the FWB area)
that will challenge stations like COAST to try harder to maintain flowage.

again.. having a news/talker on the FM band would also be great.

Back in the olden days when WZEP in DeFuniak Springs was just 5kw we had 186 watts at night that we ran on an ancient gates transmitter. I think cceng might remember coming up to fix that beast when we lost the 5kw and goosed it up to a kilowatt -- barely...

well, im hearing a lot of 1KWers on my CC radio, i hear something on 650 praising god, 610 praising god,
(i barely hear WSM in the background or is that something else on 650)

very shocked to hear a lot of kenner/new orleans stations, too

What would we do without AM radio?

i've been to a place with no am radio. north bay ontario. (now, they have a 10/5KW am radio station)

it has a hell of a signal at our lake some 40 miles..

French?
around here they're called "cheese-eating surrender monkeys".
or perhaps the translation was lost in QRM

Rob, you were in North Bay before 1930? That's when CFCH (now CKAT 600) signed on, and it's been on ever since...

Now, Sudbury will soon lose its last AM station, and Timmins has been AM-free for a few years now, but not North Bay...not yet, anyway.

I guess you could call rob the French version of Don Quixote. Instead of fighting windmills
---he's fighting radio towers (especially those with with strobeys, of course.)
