Am Radio...

If I remember correctly, (its been a few years) I could hear KRLD and KLIF about as far as Austin during the day..Are my recollections accurate?

Hmmm not sure. I know WBAP will go ALL the way to Beaumont.

I went to San Antonio last week and I could hear KRLD all the way to New Braunfells. Also, I have heard KLIF as far north as Pauls Valley, OK.

KRLD's signal has been greatly attenuated by IBOC. I remember hearing them like a local in Conroe, TX a few years ago before they started messing with HD. They were fighting off crosstalk from a local 1070. Now, they are about as strong there as KTRH is in Dallas. Very weak - sad commentary on IBOC. I can get them in Cypress, but it takes a GE Superadio with a large loop to it. Pre-IBOC, they had a listenable signal. Not that they care about Houston coverage, but on marginal radios in the Dallas area, IBOC probably loses them listeners.

I had forgotten about IBOC..I remember coming up from austin and they had a fairly weak but use able signal. I seem to remember once I cleared the Austin Metro (up by Saldo and Temple) it improved..I'll check it and see if I can get to Austin for the holidays.

In my recent experience I've found serious deterioration of both WBAP and KRLD on the outer edges of the D/FW area. Same story with KLIF, but what's really impressive to me is KSKY. With 20,000 watts at 660, no real problems with either 1st or 2nd adjacents and no IBOC they really pack a punch. If only they had a stunning line-up of talkers...

I was able to listen to Ed Wallace on Wheels last summer during a Saturday morning drive to Austin. Heard it all the way there, no problems.

I was able to pick up KLIF and WBAP while traveling between Roundrock and College Station on wed. of this week. KLIF sounded better than BAP did.

I've picked up WBAP in Northern Arkansas......at night. :p

WBAP and KRLD were both good on the day signal last week up to OKC. I'm in MN right now and the local area has stations on 830 and 1080 so not much luck with those two at night.

A station with an amazing daytime ground signal was KCMO-710 (the old WHB). Easily heard with little all the way up I-35 to the IA-MN line from Kansas City.
