AM Reception and Street Cars (Light Rail)

I listen to KFNN when I go south on Central every morning.

Reception has always been decent until last week when the light rail street cars started running on a regular basis. Now, ironically, reception is good until I get to the KFNN studios south of Camelback, then it falls off with a lot of noise. That just happens to be where the overhead wires start for the street cars.

Just wondering if this is connected, or is something else causing the interference? Anyone else having a similar experience

Is this before or after monthly power-up (7:30am)? The 100 watts/night
is likely to be really susceptible to electrical grids, especially that far from
their sticks.

Assuming we are talking day power, how do some of the other big AM sticks
(550/620/1100) make out in the K-Lite Rail corridor?

A modern light rail/streetcar will have some kind of inverter/variable frequency drive motor.
They make a fine whir/growl on AM radios.
Monday and Tuesday of this week I was in Little Rock, AK, and they have some street trolleys that look real old, but I think they're fairly
new. They threw a big howl into AM signals within 2 blocks.

hmmmm...maybe Nurse Jeff and I should park the Gremlin in front of the KFuNN studios and see if Skippy's Trolley causes interference. Knowing our luck, the damned thing would probably crash into our wheels and we'd be forced to use public transporation back to Buckeye!
