I'd say it's virtually impossible to get a station on 1400 from Montana in the middle of the day.

There are all levels of DX'ing people on this board. Some new to it and some who have been at it since long before you were born. We have one thing in common...we are all interested in DX'ing.

Try to use your knowledge and experience to help. Your cynicism does nothing to better this board or our hobby.

Point taken. Just seems some rather outlandish stuff reported from time to time and everyone just bites at the bit and runs with it. I would think the more "experienced" DX'ers would point it out.

Even if all ofthe stations were off the air on 1400, and you had a beverage antenna pointed right at Montana you might hear it in the daytime. Mobile NO in the daytime. At night there would be a good chance, but either everyone else would have to be off the air, and that "ain't" gonna happen - not with 150+ stations on the frequency, and that's in the U.S. alone, what about Canada, The Caribbean and Central/South America? And it takes a lot of patience to listen for a 'graveyard' signal to rise above the other signals (and that happens very randomly) and be intelligible. By my calculations you may have been hearing WZHR Zephyr Hills, FL

I second that - please obey the posted speed limits. They are there for a reason, and we should be obedient to civil authority. My wife was almost killed a few weeks ago by a driver going over the posted limit.

I have theories on the 1400 - I know that there are national ads for Montana tourism right now. I'm not saying a moment atmospheric anomaly couldn't have done it - but it is best to get an ID from the station, which by law has to be in a window starting 5 minutes before the hour and ending 5 minutes after the hour. The ID must include the call letters and city of license.

I would say North Dakota heard on 1310 in N.FL. on a barefoot Crane- not likely- and very difficult under the best of conditions. I've never heard ND on any freq. have tried to avail for their X-bander using a Sony 2010 and a loop antenna- so I'm a little skeptical on hearing 'em on a regional channel in the nice cool Summer weather. I could be wrong. Reminds me when I edited a column in a AM club publication and someone heard a ESPN liner on 1030 and automatically reported it as New Mexico- while this person was listening to a barefoot portable from jail in Pennsylvania. But then again, that is the magic of radio.
