AM Reception

I love DXing & Listening to AM Radio

When I was at my brothers in Vallejo, I brought 5 Radios with me

I was looking for new stations to listen to at Night

Found one at 1270 & 1250 playing Music, KVMI at 1270 in Tulare, CA has a AC Format IDing My97-5

KLLK 1250 simulcasting KUKI 1400 AM Ukiah Classic Hit Format

Then when I got back home in Citrus Heights, Both stations at night was hard to get

The I looked on the map, I think Citrus Heights is a 8 & Vallejo is a 30 on the AM Ground Conductivity map

Yeah, I recall seeing that high ground conductivity on the map a year or so ago when California DXing was discussed here.

Amazing what a bit of water under the ground, and mineral content will do to change how a DX radio picks stuff up.

It's probably the best portable you can get for AM DX reception. 200mm twin coil loopstick, stereo on FM. Hawaiigar has one and has heard Chicago stations on it from Hawaii.

With just the internal loopstick.

I'd recommend it. I have one. I use it every night for DX listening and also DX with it as well.

Yep, the PR-D5 is great. I own two of them.

I agree. I like my PRD5 very much.

I also read on amazon about the unit just dies for no reason at all

Like "Doesn't turn on. Just says PWR on display. Tried batteries and adapter"

No problems with mine. The one guy on Amazon must have gotten a bum one. It can happen with any radio. Mine works normally.

Every six months or so it's probably a good idea to reset it, i.e. take out the batteries, unplug the power supply, wait 15-30 seconds, and then power it up again.

I've had my PR-D5 since 2014 and I use it every night.

I am rather fond of my Tecsun PL-380, which has traveled more than a million miles with me. I've found it to be a good DX radio (for the price) and its compact size makes it great for trips.

Amazon has it: https://www.amazon.com/Tecsun-Radio...8&qid=1518908123&sr=8-6&keywords=tecsun+radio

I still have it and use it

I don't like the sound it makes when you tune it up & down

It still makes a sound when the Vol is down

It is a chuffing noise? Most digitally tuned radios from the 1990's - 2000's had chuffing. I just deal with it. I see it as an artifact of the era....

It was a primitive method of muting. Most modern radios fade to silence and back very quickly.
