AM Reception

I'm moving back to my old place in the middle of March

I be on the 2nd floor near a Window

How do I add a wire for AM on my Analog Radios?

Do I put a speaker wire in the AM Rod in the Radio?

I hear DXers saying they add like 100ft of wire

It's just a simple question here. It's not that hard

I have a analog tuning radio. Do I put the wire in where the AM Loopstick is?

Tell us what radio it is, that may help us give you a decent answer.

That said, a good way to add a longer wire to an AM radio with a loopstick is to loop the end of the longer wire around the radio a few times. The loopstick will pick up the signals that way.

I have an old Realistic TRF, an AM only, high performance transistor radio. There is an external antenna jack. The way that the external antenna is coupled to the radio is a wire that wraps around the loopstick several times before it goes to ground.

I would think the ground, although useful, is probably optional for most purposes.

You may get better results if you use a tunable AM loop antenna, though (if you have one).

You could also inductively couple another small external loopstick and 365 pF variable capacitor in series to the loopstick in the radio. Experiment with placement to find the best spot. Put the long wire on one end, the ground on the other. You could also build a one transistor preamp like in Tom Knietel's "103 Simple Transistor Projects".

Try eBay if out of stock.
