AM revitalization

In 2016 the FCC is going to open an AM revitalization window. Some thoughts .East and north of Pittsburgh will Butler or Kittanning radio stations moved to 1340? To the West and south will WDIG or WANB move to 1340? What about WGBN 1360 they can maybe go 1000 watts on 1340 from their nighttime site in McKeesport? WAOB 860 will they change city of license from Millville to Pittsburgh due to night time changes in covering the percentage of local market? Will WKHB 620 move there transmitter to 810 site for better nighttime coverage of Allegheny County? Just some thoughts comments please. Thank you

All interesting scenarios. How badly would WANB want the nighttime AM signal?
Aren't they better off staying on 1210 with a daytime signal stretching all the way up to Pittsburgh?
Especially considering what they invested in that just a few years ago?

WGBN moving to 1340 would appear to make some sense. Cutting costs and simplifying operations would appear to be the best move for Rev. Mann.

I would be a big fan of WKHB moving their tower into Allegheny County as I really like the music they play after the infomercials end for the day. Though I can kind of get their FM at my home if I play with the antenna long enough.

With the change in the sky wave AM 1080 and AM 1510 might sign on with 500 watts at 6 a.m. and stay on 2 hours past sunset. Since 1550 is Canadian clear I don't know how that would work.

Got an idea last night as something apparently went haywire at WZUM and they did not power down until well after 7.
Drove all over the South Hills and for the most part they came in amazingly well. Only a few brief interruptions in French.

When Michael Horvath purchased the original WZUM 1590 , (around 1999) He was authorized 69 watt's at night. The signal was good through Lawrenceville but when you cross the river to Millville you lost it. It was also very good around Lebanon Church Road area.

Sorry the signal was Northeast using 3 towers. It looks like AM revitalization in western Pennsylvania is going to be a crowded FM band. I wonder if wedo is going to put their fm on their current AM tower?

If you ever think there is a problem like staying on high power, please let me know. Send e-mail to [email protected]. I check it several times a day. As for last night, the remote control logs show the transmitter changed to low power at 1800. I left the office building after 6PM and was able to hear the station which is unusual. If the band conditions are quiet and the skywave from other stations doesn't exist, I can listen to WZUM's 4 watt night signal from the office to almost my home in Allison Park. I lose the night signal when I get close to the KDKA-AM site in Hampton.

When your station was still the AM sister of 96.9, MANY years ago, I noticed the same thing....running the AM at full power after sundown. (actually at the time I think they had to sign-off and did not even have the four watts).

I called the station and spoke to the jock on-air. Won't say who he was, but many regard him as a Pittsburgh legend. He thought I was crazy, insisted I was wrong, said something less than polite, then hung-up on me.

An hour later it was still booming in at full power. I called again, and got the next guy whose shift had just begun. I told him what had happened. He told me to hold the phone up to my radio. Then he exclaimed "wow, it's 20/20, isn't it? Hey, thanks a lot, man!". A few minutes later it went off.
