AM signals booming from the south tonight

Central VA:

Last night, everything was pretty normal until I stopped listening at around 11PM EST.

This evening at 7:30 PM EST was starting to pick up lots of Spanish all along the dial. 530 was very clear. Still is. Most of my usual dial has been wiped out.

Almost unlistenable or gone here, are: WSM, CFZM, WBT, WRVA, WPHT, WHKK, WBZ, WWVA, WCBS, WABC. Usually they boom in every night.

Clear: WHAS, WBBM, KMOX (usually only heard around 3-4 AM EST) These are stations that only come around here every so often and with no real predictability.

Last night I was in Louisville, KY, and the Cubans were like I've never heard them that far north....

530, 570, 590 (strongest I can recall it...owned the channel), 640, 670 (wiped out WSCR), 690, 710 (blew out WOR), 890, 950, and a big mess on 1180. Pretty much still going on at 530 this morning.
The only oddity was that there was no trace of R. Reloj under an uncharacteristically weak WWL.

1240 KNRY Monterrey, CA at TOH-not new but heard "This is Immaculate Heart Radio" 2000 PDT.

1280 is KFRN, 1600 is KGST. 1270 still a weak KBZZ Reno...

That's pretty much ditto for me.

I'm getting Radio Reloj's (in)famous ticking and tone, up here on 790. That's over 2500 km for the 25 kW signal...not too shabby. PJB, with positive ID 'Radio Trans Mundial' up on neighbouring 800 kHz.

Last night in Louisville, I was trying to null the local 790 to see if I could snag R. Reloj. I figured the "ticking" would make it easy to pull it through. But no luck.

1410 KMYC Marysville, CA relog w/ ID 2030

1340 KEWE
1240 KTIX
1480 KRXR (why is Eastern OR/ID stuff starting to creep in?)
790 KFPT-can't pull out KABC
1430 KYKN too strong for KFIG
1440 KMED too strong for KVON

1240 KJOP Lemoore, CA fair, new #459, new #4 of the evening! This is a wild ride...
Holy Mary prayers and Catholic format echoing with KNRY Monterey. 791 mile GY makes it the second-farthest of my DX career! :) :)

Here in central Ohio, not noticing much out of the usual from the south, but getting decent east-west propagation. KOA coming in pretty well, and KDKA is sounding better around than I've ever heard here. WBZ is pretty weak. WMVP is loud as usual, and the Cuban is mixing with WSCR. Even WLS is better than usual. WGN and WBBM aren't coming in well, and WLW is sounding stronger with less cancellation.

Here in the Chicago area tonight still no WBZ. WCBS is coming in weak, last night they were hardly there. Getting Spanish on 690 & 730.
Wonder if the 730 is Mexico City or Cuba? Can't even hear WLW or WJR and they make it here during the day. Tonight I'm hearing KOA, but last night nada. Weak Toronto on 740, last night they were stronger. No KDKA or WTAM--usually both are easy. WPHT & KYW are weak, but there. WWL is just fair, I would expect it to be stronger.

2200 PDT-the big Aurora conditions seem to be mostly gone. WA/OR stations are seeping in to the upper frequencies where CA was before, and 1240 is now a mess. Was KNRY earlier. Still 4 new logs is GREAT!

On the drive to work, 820/WBAP was very strong, and even 1200/WOAI was on top of its frequency, though weaker than WBAP.

NY stations were reasonably strong, especially 710/WOR. (Thanks WLW for turning off the adjacent channel eraser.)

West and Northwest stations, including Chicago and Minneapolis, weak.

This morning, the South was much weaker than yesterday.

My first DX goals during morning drive are to check 680 & 640 for signs of California, then 540.

The one bright spot has been that 1070/WFNI has been very weak. I.D.'d a couple of new stations on the frequency.

Just checked and I'm already hearing R Reloj under WKBN on 570, Cuban on 600, Cubans thrashing WSCR and 710 had a strong Spanish signal as well as R Reloj clearly under WWL 870 - and its not even completely dark here yet in Vermilion, OH

Was just wondering.... What might DX conditions be like if ... you could simultaneously see the northern AND southern lights standing on the beach at the equator, and they were blocking your view of the sun?
BTW I've never seen them from San Diego. Also I don't remember ever noticing auroral conditions on my radio. KCBS, KNBR, KGO, KFBK, KSL, etc, have always been receivable at night. I would think a good aurora should wipe out even KNX, KFI (both fairly strong daytime), even KFMB (50kW, 7.3mi NW) and KSDO (10kW, 6.3mi N)?

Your radio would be fried from that solar flare. The aurora has never been seen from the equator.

Last night around sunset ( before 7 pm MDT) in the car I was getting big band music on 890. Finally covered by KDXU & I arrived home so I missed any ID.

KJME Fountain, CO is your UNID big band.

Here in VA, about 5:30 AM EST I just heard the Cuban 710 wiping out WOR and logged in WEFL (ESPN 760) Palm City, FL. I heard this station say "ESPN" so it's gotta be WEFL. It was above WJR at that time.

One time in New Jersey 80 miles from New York, the Cuban station dominated WCBS for a short time.

WABC was fluttering with the Cuban station strong in the background.

Very unusual.

Not good from the east through south-west tonight in the northwest/Boise. Getting most of the Vancouver BC stations steady & strong but KSL and others are weak with fast deep fades. Auroral is active tonight.
