AM Stereo

There are no stations that I am aware of broadcasting in stereo in the Atlanta area. The last I checked, and it has been a while, WPLO-610 had a stereo pilot on but the program content was in mono. For the life of me I cannot understand why stations that have the ability to broadcast in stereo would not. Even though WSB is news/talk; the commercials, promos, imaging etc all contain music that could be aired in stereo. It's really beyond me why *any* station would not broadcast in stereo. Don't even get me started on IBAC! I remember when 590, 750, 790, 1190 and 1550 were all in stereo. Was 680 also in stereo? Thinking they might have been. They all sounded nice. Stations that run music (590, 1160 and the various Spanish stations)would benefit most from being in stereo but I think all should do it. I remember a few years ago driving home from work here in Atlanta and listening to KMOX St. Louis. They ran an image promo that was very well mixed and in stereo. Had the crack of the bat on one side, crowd on the other, big voice in middle, music...sounded incredible. And that's listening to a skywave signal from hundreds of miles away. Imagine how awesome WSB *could* sound if they would just turn the stereo back on. Note to WGST: You guys should ***NOT*** try stereo...you cannot even get your mono channel sounding any better than an average telephone. LOL!

I remember when GM SUV's and truck vehicles from 91-92 had AM Stereo standard with their cassette deck players. I remember 1210AM back home in Memphis many years ago was in Stereo when I lived there in the early 90s.

why bother broadcasting in stereo. hardly anyone has an am stereo receiver. and they are really hard to find to the average consumer.
