AM Streaming

Hi there,

Can AM be streamed in stereo for use by an app? If so, will ppm encoding be intact?

Thanks!

I've been instructed to install Arbitron encoders so they CAN'T make it to a stream.

You can stream anything you want as long as it's audio. I wouldn't try to stream an off-air feed. Use a sample of the audio heading to the STL (and before the PPM encoder).

Of course, there are other legalities involved here...copyright, etc.

Just did a new AM studio install...all stereo...mono sum output of board feeds the AM transmitter, stereo pgm out feeds the streamer.

I believe you can request a seperate PPM encoder for you netstream....

That makes sense...each path would have its own encoder. I have to do a PPM install this weekend at a daytime-AM with a translator, and Arbitron sent a separate encoder for the translator path.

Our top 50 market stations have separate PPM's for the main air feed, the stream, and the HD subchannels. Our smaller out-of-market stations only run PPM on the air feed. We could probably request a separate encoder for the stream of the small out-of-market stations, I'm not sure.

My AM streaming question is this: Do any of the news networks (ABC News, AP Radio News) allow streaming that you know of? Do you know of any syndicated programming that allows streaming? I'm thinking of things like The Huckabee Report, Red Eye Radio, and some others. I'm more wondering in general if any of the syndicated programming available out there is good for streaming?

One station in Indy is allowed to use the same stream for on air and net. This happened recently. Last 4 months or so.
