AM Tampa Bay "A-Hole"?

While listening to morning AM radio today, WFLA's AM Tampa Bay interviewed Ron Reagan Jr regarding his new book. Whithin the interview, "Ted Webb" had a very interesting interchange with Ronbo Jr. Basically, Webb let it fly with/against Reagan Jr. Something to the effect, "...I'll buy two books, one to read and one to use as toilet paper...," "...I'd smack you [RRJr.]...," "a-hole..."
Did I miss something? Lest we forget "Jackarooni" chuckling and providing the comic releif that McMahon provided Carson, "Ohh ho ho," "...oh ho ha..."
Oh well, I guess I turned to WFLA just in time...the "Big Show" on WWBA was once again a Big Downer, "...and now another interview with a sponsor, 'Jack [redacted] Insurance'..." Does anyone else think of the "Big Show" as a sad parody of "Laurel and Hardy"? Bud Abbot and Lou Costello provided more information with "Who's on First?"
AM Tampa Bay proposed line-up: Mark Larsen and Ted Webb. "Big Show" (WWBA) proposed Line-up: *Crickets Chirpping* Jesse Lee Peterson?
 
I find the Reeves interviews with restaurant owner, insurance co. owners, deli owners, liposuction/cosmetic surgery co. owners, etc, to be riveting radio !!!!!! Cutting edge for sure. THE BIG SHOW SHALL LIVE ON FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty soon they will move it to the 12-3 slot as it would obliterate Rush !
 
So somebody dropped the "A-bomb" on "AM Tampa Bay" yesterday? Is there a podcast of this show; I wonder if said "A-bomb" was edited out...

Not only wasn't it not edited out, the interview was repeated - intact - today.

The word itself was not such a big deal, anymore. The interview WAS!

The fuss over the younger Regan's book is way overblown. When you read the quotes in context they really don't amount to much. A few years back Jack denounced a Hollywood movie as "Unamerican" before it was released and Tedd doesn't seem to have read the book. *shrug"...

It is interesting that conservatives who are so quick to denounce Obama's supporters for making him out to be some sort of Messiah, go nuts when someone suggests Reagan was less than perfect. *another shrug*

Eric Deggans did not make comment when there were people writing books and opening
off-Broadway plays on how to assassinate the President, but the word a**hole makes him
complain.

There is a double standard that becomes evident in places and forums when disagreed
with.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tedd or WFLA get fined. After all, we have a liberal FCC
setting and continuing the double standard, since Tedd was criticizing a liberal.

I stand behind Tedd's comment as a listener and a friend.

He is what he is. There is no facade here, only hypocrisy from the “left”.

WFLA may get fined, but if I recall, someone in the Gandy Bldg (BTLS) was responsible for 3/4 million in fines if my memory serves me. This wont hold a candle to that.

What did Eric actually complain about? I saw some reporting about the incident, but I didn't see any call to fire anyone or fire anyone. Besides, as you said yourself, the publicity is awesome...
 
Finally got around to reading Deggins article. BFD. Ron Jr. has been "dissing" his old man for quite awhile, BFD. I thought the ENTIRE interchange was AWESOME! Both gave as good as they got period. It was hilarious...all the "fun" that WWBA promises on the "Big Show," but on a different station altogether.
P.S. Ronbo did NOT "visit" the station in person. He "visited" the station via a thing called a, "telephone." Ronbo Jr. was on NUMEROUS national stations/shows pushing his book. BFD. Yes, I DO believe RR Sr. was a wee bit "diseased" if you will, towards the end of his second term. A family member of mine passed in 2005 due to Alzheimers also. Similar traits in the middle of her "battle." RR Sr. RIP, RR Jr., weee weee weee all the way home.
 
Sounds like they are going to have to put the station into permanent delay like many talk stations are. Then the board op or personality can dump it before it goes out over the air.
 
Funny, the Iran Contra affair proved how out of it Reagan was. Reagan was no where near perfect. Not the neo-con Bush and Palin are but what the hey.

Not to mention Reagan gave ammensty to illegial immigrants. In 1986 as I recall. Why weren't the TRUE conservatives attacking him. I respect Reagan as a person and a good father. Not to mentioned extending the "Good Samaritans" Program. However he was not that great.

Even Nancy Reagan stood up for Ron Jr. over his book.

Why can't radio just clean up its act. Secondly why does every talk station have to be conservative talk. Liberal Talk started here in Tampa What happened. In fact I.E America (Before Air America) started in Tampa. on WEND 760 AM.
 
In my opinion Ronald Reagan was the greatest modern day president this country has ever had. If you think back, although I agree Reagan was not perfect, these United States of America had the best economy it has experienced in years. Reaganomics was the word, and we all prospered with an unemployment level of near 1% unlike now with unemployment at an all time high nearing 14%; In our current economy corporations need government bailouts or are going bankrupt; and radio, in general, is in severe economic dire straits. This isn't an absolute across the board conclusion; However, it is the general state of our current economy. And, no, I am not a Republican. I just recognize my surroundings through keen observation, and I give proper credit where credit is due.
 
For a host to call their guest names is certainly unprofessional to say the least. Perhaps some anger management counselling would do Ted Webb a lot of good. He seems to fly off the handle whenever confronted with viewpoints that differ from his own. I really wish the Fairness Doctrine would come back. I only listen to sports talk on AM because all the rest of it is either right-wing or religious.
 
It might be well to remember that Tedd has a background in professional wrestling where success is measured by the ability to build "heat" by "getting over" on the audience. Remember the Iron Shiek waving the Iranian flag after the American embassy was seized and the staff held hostage? Or Ivan Koloff entering the ring with the Hammer and Sickle flag? The idea that "Liberal Talk" won't work is simple nonsense. Bob Lassiter had a great run and Jay Marvin had a decent run in Tampa Bay, because they understood that the key is entertaining your audience. Right now, the best entertainers are on the conservative side and for radio managers the safest course is to go with conservative hosts, especially since the big players in radio aren't exactly flaming liberals themselves.
 
Lassiter was the best I ever listened to.... What these hosts today dont realize is the best in the past were not one trick ponies like they are today. Beck was great when he was local here. I loved his Moron trivia, and Valentines day dedications and on and on. Today, it's nothing but conspiracy with him. We also must remember Uncle Dickie Norman who when not doing news was a great talk show host. Even Don Richards did talk fairly well
 
Talk show hosts weren't quite so serious, self-important, and venomous back in the day. None of this ideological garbage of "everything my side says and does is wonderful and everything you say and do is evil".
 
The Fairness Doctrine was abolished in 1987 by FCC Chairman Mark Fowler. Who was appointed chairman by the Reagan Administration. Under the Fairness Doctine Rush Limbagh was not allowed to go on air and give hate speech. Or incite violence. Oh and the media also had to serve in the good of the public. If a TV Station had a news cast they had to keep you informed.

Oh and I'm not letting Clinton off the hook either. He signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Thanks to Clinton 2 media companies can dominate an entire market. Hence Cox and Clear Channel. Which literally killed local radio. Now most radio stations are the same. Voicetracking, Playlist and all. Example, WMTX uses the same computer as all C.C Hot AC Stations. Aside from the Morning and Afternoon Drive. Most everything else is Computerized and syndicated.

Freedom of Speech is Freedom of Speech. However Hate Talk should not be tolerated.
