AM Transmitter

Where can I find one pre-made??

This is just for fun, hooking it up to my PC & playing it though the Radio...

Eather Per-set at 1600 Khz or 1700 Khz

I'm not very good at buliding stuff..like in the $20 range..I'm on a tight budget

You might be able to find an older Talking House transmitter on ebay for that price, otherwise you're looking close to $99 for either a new Talking House or the SSTran kit. There may be other kits with lower cost but I have no idea how they'd perform.

In that price range probably all the new ones you can find will use the FM broadcast band. But they can produce higher quality sound from the receiver than AM typically does (quieter and more natural sounding), and in stereo as well.

As you are located in the U.S., if you want to be "legal" then look for one that is FCC certified for Part 15 use. They should be receivable around your own home and lot, but not much further than that. Probably you can find one at Wal-Mart or similar. Some designs get their power and audio input from a computer USB port, but of course they are more expensive.

Many FM transmitters are advertised for Part 15 FM use, but are rated for much more power than can be radiated while complying with Part 15 -- for example, ratings of 1 mW (milliwatt) or greater.

You can buy a battery operated FM transmitter in the auto section of Wal-Mart. Comes with a plug that will fit most music devices, covers the house, cost less than 20 bucks.

I have a few AM Talking House Transmitters in good condition that I paid around $75 each for them. I would sell a couple of them for $50 each if anyone is interested. Buy 2 of them, and I'll include Free Shipping.
