AM1300 WTIR off the air

Noticed here on the coast that AM1300 formerly know as travelers information radio and as a spanish language station and their latest format as R&B and Gospel, "The Rhythm of the Space Coast" has been off the air since at least this past weekend.

Are there any listeners to this station in Brevard that know what's up?

This is truly a huge loss to Brevard County and beyond. There are tens of listeners out there going through AM 1300 withdraw right now. Speaking for some of them I sincerly hope that this station returns to the airwaves soon and once again serves the Space Coast as only it can. ;)

Sorry to post such a horrible message about the current state of the radio dial. Guess next time I'll wait until one of those big 100,000 watters has 5 seconds of dead air before commenting since the big media conglomerates are SO much more important because their programming is SO much BETTER :D

 So who the hell is Frank F and Byron..I happen to have great feelings for WTIR... It was WRKT, 1300 in Cocoa Beach, NBC's Voice of Cape Kennedy when I started in radio in 1965 and one of the most respected stations in Brevard and the East Coast..I enjoy hearing about the old stations back when "radio was Fun" and not all the old crap everyday about Clear Channel...

I don't know what happened with WTIR 1300, but I'd hazard a guess that someone didn't pay for the lease and were shown the door. Second guess is catastrophic equipment failure. Been there as a guest looking around. The ol' bird has been run into the ground there on Pluckenburg Road. Got a few photos of the joint.

I'd love to see those pics Rocky..I worked there while going to Cocoa High School..The owner was my Dad's best friend..We had a continual problem with the cows out at the tower array and the horses from Moody Farms breaking the ground radials. It's actually Pluckebaum Road and used to have two canals on each side ..I ran a new 911S Porcshe into one racing to get back from "Parking" on Cocoa Beach one night.. Those were the days and WKKO was right around the corner on Burnett Road!

I was part of the last major owners of WRKT AM/FM we bought it for the FM 104.1 and built the 1649' tower at Bithlo which had 96.5, 101.1, 104.1 and 105.1, channel 18 and 52. Switched it to WSSP virtually gave away 1300 after we had to replace the 3 towers so we could acquire 740 AM WKIS. Which we later increased to 50,000. WRKT was special we did a lot of shuttle launches and it was a pretty good sounding country station and I didn't really like country but did that station
