Amador Bustos has an appointment with the LaRue Family concerning KSTN-1420 and 107.3!

Amador Bustos has an appointment with the LaRue Family concerning KSTN-1420 and 107.3!

According to a staffer at KSTN, Amador Bustos has an appointment with the LaRue Family on August 20. Last time Mr. Bustos met with the LaRue family, he had offered to purchased both KSTN-1420 and KSTN-FM-107.3 but was declined.I don't know why he is having another meeting with the LaRue family other than offering them more money? I can't see him trying to swap another Valley station for them as he only owns KBBU-93.9 Modesto locally. Mr. Bustos really want the KSTN's badly! But then again so does Clear Channel, Citadel, Entravision as well as almost everyone else in the business. Why? Are the signals of both stations that good?

Re: Amador Bustos has an appointment with the LaRue Family concerning KSTN-1420 and 107.3!

Just a guess here.

Stockton is the closest major city to the growing population of commuters from San Jose, and the Silicon Valley.

Sacramento is too far north and Fresno is too far south for local coverage. So Stockton is a good answer for coverage.

107.3 has a very good signal. 1420 is very strong to the northwest and west covering Livermore and Dublin quite well. It does cover the I-5, I-205 and
99 freeway very well!

Other posters can give a better run down on the coverage of the stations.

An appointment made that far in
advance sounds like it is an appointment to drop off or maybe even sign a
contract to sell the stations. If so I hope the LaRue family made him triple
the last offer at the very least. It's getting to seem that the big companies are going to have the english market covered and the Entravisions, Univisions,
SBS's, Lotus's, and Bustos Media handling the ethnic stations. Radio will finally have all the formats holes covered if you not over 55 years old.

If the LaRue's sell it will mark an end of an era in the Stockton market all the while Knox LaRue is spinning in his grave! But it is the typical family
response after the big wig dies. Sell and grab the money and run never focusing in on the fact that the business will provide more than enough income to take care of their families for generations to come. Oh Well!

That is buy both KSTN's and then swap them with Clear Channel with some other stations in another market? I know that Clear Channel wants to program "La Preciosa" on 107.3 and it wouldn't surprise me if Clear Channel would put "Air America" on 1420 AM. I think Bustos would be better off buying the Entravision Stations instead(KCVR-1570, KTSE-97.1, KCVR-FM-98.9 and KMIX-100.9).Clear Channel has been wanting both KSTN's since 2000. They would do anything to get them.

1420 is nothing to brag about... another high dial AM in the valley. But the FM is magnificent... best thing outside of Fresno and Sacramento. Covers tons of population, but, unfortunately, the different markets are small and not commonly bought together. Still, an absolutely great signal, over some small markets.

Entravision is not buying... in fact, they are selling. Lotus has not bought a standalone market for a long, long time... back to the 80's, I believe. And neither SBS nor Univsion operate in this kind of market... Univsion pulled from Sacto because it was too small a Spanish langauge radio market, in fact.

It would have to be Bustos or some smaller operator like Abel de Luna to talke KSTN, if the LaRue family ever decides to sign. The fact that KSTN is doing better than it ever has since it went Spanish in the early 70's now that it has Piolín in the mornings. Since it is all paid for, this should be a very profitable station for them.

The Entravision stations are most likely not for sale!
Why in the world doesn't Clear Channel just put Air America on their station at 1280AM? Why don't they just put La Preciosa on 100.1 if its such a hot format?

Evidence does not support that. Look a few miles to the west...

They only put Spanish on if they have a really underperforming member of a cluster, not when they are making projections.

KSTN-AM sucks...Even worse than it did Before KNOX LARUE died. The Fm is HUGE...but too bad its run out of an outhouse of a building. Cat sh*t everywhere... and speaking of sh*t.... Why is John Hampton still there? After 20 plus years? And always sucking in the market...come on John give it up. Unless a major corp takes over those stations... they will always be Sh*t! <P ID="signature">______________

Re: Amador Bustos has an appointment with the LaRue Family concerning KSTN-1420 and 107.3!

Everyone talks about how cheesy the 1420 AM is... how about moving it to the East Bay area? That's quite doable -- that is, shoehorn it into Contra Costa County, about where KATD used to be located. Great signal in the northern San Joaquin Valley, all of Contra Costa and most of Solano county, all the way down the I-680 corridor, and decent signal into SF and the peninsula. (alternate channel protection to KVTO 1400 and KVON 1440; not that big a deal, and KVVN 1430 in Santa Clara mostly beams southwest.) More importantly, sell the Stockton transmitter site, or swap it for KATD's old Collinsville site. Contra Costa has no local station that covers the entire county adequately, and many commuters make the trip from Pittsburg, Antioch and Brentwood into the Bay Area proper. Much better demos in Contra Costa than in Stockton, too. The station would be worth a small fortune after the move, at least saleable.

The FCC recently approved the sale of KSTN to Independence Media. It has yet to be finalized. Has the deal fallen apart?

Newsperson responds:

What am I missing here? KSTN AM & FM have been sold to another company and the application has not be dismissed!

Trying to sell it to someone else would certainly be a breach of contact.........unless has the buyer backed out?

Let's hear the latest news on KSTN.
