Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, and others, get ready...

Looks like there's going to be a sale in your area. Clear Channel is planning on selling 448 smaller market stations, and it looks like you're included. So Power 98.7, Mix 94.1, Z102, KFMX, Wild 96.1, 103.3 Kiss fm, and others will be on the chopping block. Comments?......

I don't really know what this means...I'm sure that there will be some casualites but the who, when, where, and why remains a mystery. Then again there might not be much of a shakeup at all...who knows!?

It's pretty cut & dry. No mystery at all. If you are not atop 100 market, CC is gonna sell your station. Will more private mom & pop type folks step up?? Or will another megagroup buy 'em all at wholesale???? Those 440+ stations only contributed 10% to the total CC cashflow...

Basically everything in the state of Texas and Oklahoma are on the list. Wichita Falls, Lawton, Midland, Amarillo, Lubbock, Tyler...among others...going to be sold.

Prior to Clear Channel, our cluster went through 8 turn-overs.. the only thing it effected was the 401K structure. Always a 50/50 shot whether or not things will get better/worse, or stay the same. In some cases, things could only get better..but for now, the jury is still out. Give it about six months and we shall see.

I have heard that the 448 stations will be sold as a group and that the deal is already done.

I doubt it. Unless it's fallen apart, I know who's getting at least two of those markets, and they can't get all of those stations. I wish I could say more, but the deal hasn't been announced outside of the two companies involved.

It's not all "over 100" markets. Surprisingly, Corpus Christi was not on the divest list. Weird for market 138 (As I recall). .

I wonder who will take the Lubbock stations, if all 6 will go to the same group, or if they will go in pieces. And if so, will any of them go to a company that owns one of the other Lubbock clusters....?

All I gotta say is Good Riddance to bad radio... It will be really interesting to see what happens to the Tyler cluster. I wonder if Gleiser, Waller or Reynolds will attempt to buy whole or part of CC's cluster if they have the cash.

Yes, Maybe we'll get more "quality programming" in East Texas like Danny & Dru...or that new guy at KOOI. I can hardly wait.

I hear it's already sold, not to Gleiser, Waller, or Reynolds... but I'm not sure exactly who to.

From the San Antonio Express News-

At least one minority-owned broadcaster, Houston-based Border Media Partners, has its sights on the stations. And owner Tom Castro said others probably do, too.

"We'd like to buy some of those stations," said Castro, whose firm is the nation's largest privately held Hispanic radio group. "We're going to aggressively pursue them."

While Castro said it was possible for one or two big players to purchase all of Clear Channel's sale properties, he said they more likely would be split among 10 to 20 local or regional buyers

Yeah. That's not who has Tyler...

THANK GOD !

I am extermely happy to hear of this news ! I privately said some 10 years ago when these corporate takeovers were happening , that eventually the corporations would lose money and sell the stations back to the "ma and pop owners" because these corporate GM's and PD's are not radio people. These Clear Channels and other corps never had (and still don't) a clue as to how to run stations. ESPECIALLY CLEAR CHANNEL ! They stripped them down and hired non-qualified staff and now it is catching up with them. GOOD !

I predict it will only be a matter of time before it starts happening to their big markets as well !

The "ma and pop" owners were real radio people.

B-Davis.... aka "Lord of the Board" (as you refer to yourself on and off-air)

Before you start spouting off about other stations, and how you were a great swami 10 years ago, how about you actually beat someone first (in ratings and revenue)?

Remember, your cluster could always be bought and sold just as easily as everyone else's in town.
