Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, and others, get ready...

Bayou_City_Bob ... Did I hit a nerve ? You sound a bit scared, lol, Anyway, If you are talking about me personally beating someone in the ratings and generating revenue, I have been doing that my whole career and can prove it if need be. Can you ?

Second, Yes, my cluster or any station (corporate owned or not) can be sold. That isn't the point.

The point is...The FCC opened the door for the big corporations like Clear Channel back in 95' or so and the marshmellow brains of those corporations thought they knew how to run the radio industry by cutting positions and hiring no talent, non-qualified personnel to be on the air and for sales. That might work in other industries and business' but it finally is catching up with them in radio.

Fired... lets see. If CC has already scaled down its facilities to bare bone staffs like
you read about, then there shouldn't be too many folks around to fire. With the severance package that has been offered "if" you are offed because of the sale,
it's not a bad vacation to take while re-thinking the game. Nine times your monthly salary ain't too bad when it could be nothing at all.

THANK GOD !

I am extermely happy to hear of this news ! I privately said some 10 years ago when these corporate takeovers were happening , that eventually the corporations would lose money and sell the stations back to the "ma and pop owners" because these corporate GM's and PD's are not radio people. These Clear Channels and other corps never had (and still don't) a clue as to how to run stations. ESPECIALLY CLEAR CHANNEL ! They stripped them down and hired non-qualified staff and now it is catching up with them. GOOD !

I predict it will only be a matter of time before it starts happening to their big markets as well !

The "ma and pop" owners were real radio people.

Yup!!!!!!
:)

It is true that these stations are up for sale. The big question is who will buy them and what will they do with them? It could be worse than CC's stewardship. Only time will tell. In any case, I doubt that it will be a fire sale....

I don't think it can possibly be worse for 2 simple reasons:

1. Whoever buys them WILL NOT have the benefit of hooking up to the CC voice track to pip in jocks. At least initially THEY WILL HAVE to hire more people to the programming staff.

2. I think it is doubtful that all the stations in Lubbock will go the same owner. I don't think any company will want all 6 Lubbock stations together.

Uh, but noticed the times I used "think" above. So take my analysis with a grain of kosher salt...

Those new owners might work out a deal with CC to provide thier programming. But I hope most don't go to owners with little knowledge on how to run a radio station.

CC doesn't "provide programming". You have no idea what you're talking about.

Also consider that the existing clusters may not be able to be kept intact, since CC bought many of these stations under the old rules, which grandfathered certain ownership numbers. A new owner may, or may not be able to keep the clusters intact.

Exactly what I was trying to say, you just said it better!
There's a similar situation setting up over in Upstate New York from what I understand...
