How is the Amarillo market for country music? I think there are 2 stations there, an AM and an FM. The FM is run by gap. Any thoughts or personal experiences with the market?
KGNC-FM is mainstream country and on a bird from 7pm-6am.,owned by Morris. KATP-FM is mainstream/americana, on a bird from 7pm-6am, owned by GAP. May be more, there was a classic country AM at one time. Not a huge market for Texas country airplay. For many years Amarillo was country dominant, not so much in recent years.
There is a new fm on 96.1 playing Classic Country from Dalhart. Presently operating with an STA of 3800 watts and will turn up power to 100k when KEYE perryton goes to their new frequency. The response has been great.
Glad to hear that your getting good response to the station. I use to work at 101.9 The Kat 2 years ago when it was a Classic Country station. I now work at Citadel Media here in Dallas.
Hi marxman,
Hope all is going well for you and wonderful to hear your in Dallas. I need to keep KIXK at 3500 watts until a Perryton station goes to there new freq. They have till the end of 2010 to do so.
In the meantime we are palying music and gaining a good audience.
Shoot me a note at kxit at xit.net. We have a studio location in Amarillo ready to go when the time is right. I hope to hear from you
Did you not realize that Tim has appeared on your station already, off the bird, as part of your Real Country feed? Heard him sometime before the 4th, if memory serves.
Was good to hear your Tim, btw.
And George - although Ashley stays pretty scripted, we get a big kick out of "THE APOSTLE OF ROCK 'N ROLL" on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Flipping at 5pm everyday to Classic Rock for 3 hours sure is entertaining, even if you are in "THE HEART OF DALHART". As long as somebody from the Dalhart COC keeps buying time, what does it matter anyway?
Any chance you guys will go full-on Rock? Put Ash on in the mornings? Make a run at Rock 108 & The Kar? Or are you guys planning on doing this hybrid format when you move to the big city? C'mon, spill the long term beans...
......Hey Rock Oil.....you must know me (since I am a huge fan of Jeff Gordon and you reference him in a post) and you do have an advantage over me 'cause I DON'T know who you are? Are you on the air in Amarillo?
...and didnt want it to sound like "begging for a gig". Just home sick! Miss the times at Scott's with Mary Lyn, Jamey, Morgan and the rest of the crew!
Ya, just being a ****** and trying to be funny. I'll remain anonymous though. It is cool to finally have a decent Amarillo thread here. Good luck getting back. Arbs came out yesterday. The rich got richer...again. The mids stayed in the middle...again. All except Cumulus. Dropping their Arb in favor of Neilsen really showed. Arby is pissed is at them.
Hey Rock oil....it's no sweat! I was hoping it was a joke.....And you were right with the Arbs! Hats off to Jamey at The Eagle and his Crew and to Tim Butler and his crew. They once again show if you want folks to listen to your station you have to go through those 2 guys first!
ROCK OIL...if you want yo could email me and let me know who you are. I promise to keep it between us!
