Amazon announced Wednesday that it had reached a deal with HBO to exclusively license older HBO content through its streaming service, Prime Instant Video. Come May 21, Amazon customers will have access to iconic HBO shows like “The Sopranos” and “The Wire,” as well as original HBO movies and comedy specials.
Those who want to watch HBO’s newer shows, like “ Girls” and “ Veep,” will still need a cable subscription to HBO (which includes access to online streaming site HBO Go), but their seasons will become available on Amazon Prime approximately three years after they air on the cable network, an Amazon release said.
