Amber Sullins on GMA

This weekend, Chief Meteorologist Amber Sulliins filled in on Good Morning America Weekend Edition. I watched Saturdays newscast and have yet to see Sundays newscast, anyways she did a great job and seemed to fit in very well. If you remember, she also filled in on GMA a few years ago. With her second appearance on national television, it begs the question, does Amber Sullins belong in a higher market?

I don't see what all the hype is about. Amber flew to New York and was put up in a hotel, probably rode in a limo to the ABC studio this morning, hair and makeup, meet the other crew members, get the weather segment from the producer (possibly including a script for the weather segments) and then stood in front of the camera and read her lines.

I seem to remember Kaley O'Kelly making a couple of trips to GMA and had a lot more interaction with the crew.

I also watched Saturday morning. Amber was off-left and was one of five on-air people. She laughed with them but didn't really interact with the group. However it might lead to bigger and better opportunities.

As far as markets go, Phoenix is already pretty high -- top 15. I think most journalists spend their entire career trying to get to someplace like Phoenix. Plus, Amber can probably stay in Phoenix as long as she likes...whereas people come and go in the top 5 markets.

Amber (along with Kirk Yuhnke and Brien McElhatten ) is one of the finest natural-born broadcasters I've ever met. She has the talent to work anywhere she chooses, including the network. She's an Arizona native, which is why she's here. But if she wanted Top 5 local or network, she could not only have it but excel.

@Michael -- What I'm saying is that, just because someone is extremely good doesn't mean they will be successful in NY or LA. I've seen equally talented people from, say, Seattle go to NY and fail miserably over the years. OTOH, we can come up with a number of talented people from Phoenix (or Seattle or a top 20 market) who do make it in NY or LA.

Since Amber is from Arizona and is doing well in Arizona, she may well choose to stay here for her career (or perhaps she moves on to bigger and better things).
