AMC Networks is warning DishTV customers...

That they may lose its flagship channel (AMC), and its related channels (WeTV, IFC) because of agreement issues. More info can be found right now at [http]www.keepamc.com[/http] AMC plans to drop those channels after June 30th, 2012 over on DishTV. The time for action for people who wants to see great quality dhows like Mad Men & Breaking Bad is NOW.

Considering the number of repeat programs and movies shown on AMC I say it is no big loss to viewers if that network goes away.

I mean how many times must a person view Tora, Tora, Tora before they can resite the entire script line by line?

Including the Japanese side. HAI! ;D

I can think of a couple of networks that DishTV could add to replace AMC and their channels: ME-TV and Antenna TV and it would be a lot better than TV Land's butchered and cut programs and ruining classic TV shows for a whole bunch of commercials touting their original programs and ambulance chasing lawyers and drug lawsuit lawyers.

I think those networks want to go the affiliate route. A national feed would devalue the affiliate agreements, and might possibly breach the contracts.

Dish has plenty of channels. It used to count audio only, part-time, home shopping and barker channels as channels in its channel count. I'm not sure if Dish still does anymore, but at one time, it advertised packages based on a number count of channels.

The Automatic Bill Pay Channel could be the AMC replacement.

It's Charlie Ergen. What do you expect?

The relationship between Dish and Rainbow is a long one and it's a little closer and farther at once than others. (Voom, the IFC/Romance (I think) channel sharing, the use of Voom's old satellite as EchoStar 12 at 61.5°W...)

They are dropping more than AMC. A number of channels have the ticker either across the top or across the bottom in red, letting viewers know that DiSH will be canceling them and to call DiSH. I say why call, when you can just go elsewhere. Competition is good.

In a commercial DISH's competitor DirecTV also mentioned DISH dropped MSNBC.

To me DISH will always be garbage. They don't carry 2 of the major RSNs out of NYC - YES Network - home to the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets and SNY - Home of the New York Mets along with being the flagship station of UCONN Football, UCONN Men's Basketball, and now as of the 2012-2013 Season starting this fall UCONN Women's Basketball as well.

It doesn't carry MLB Extra Innings either.

Dish's strengths are in their DVR offerings, being slightly better on price over DirecTV and areas like international packages. From what I've understood, the international channels are a profitable side of the business. The porn and home shopping channels (which pay for coverage) are also considered profitable.

I think at one time Dish carried more movie channels than DirecTV but not sure if it has an edge over DirecTV or cable in general in HD or movie HD content.

The true movie buff probably goes with Netflix and does Netflix streaming and Blu Ray DVDs.

Has the Blockbuster purchase proved worthwhile: are there people bundling a Blockbuster subscription with Dish, or keeping Dish for Blockbuster? The non affected side I suppose is the AMC originals will be on DVD a year later and available through Blockbuster.

I wonder if the AMC dispute will be resolved shortly or if this will be a permanent drop of the channels, and be like YES, not carried on Dish and not likely to be carried soon.

Even truer movie buffs are avid yard sale/Goodwill scavengers, and are also often spotted visiting the Red Box at the local Fred Meyer's with a 100-count cakebox of DVD+R blanks they just purchased in hand. ;o)

"To me DISH will always be garbage."

Probably the only really useful thing they "carry" (note quotation marks) is the Muzak programming. Which, of course, one could just as easily get at with a descrambler if they're sufficiently technically-inclined and actually know their way around Nagravision-3.

Thank god we have comcast. We won't have to worry about any of this crap.

DISH allows me to view local stations that I haven't gotten OTA since the conversion. We've been with DISH since the mid '90s, and overall are very satisfied.

Dish subscribers are in two year contracts. Most aren't willing to pay the exit fee even if some or several of the channels they watch are removed.

Dish has dropped MSNBC? I have dish and I still have it, or are they planning on dropping it? Also mentioned earlier in this thread was a number of stations are being dropped, isn't it only AMC, IFC & WE? I haven't noticed any others.

I've wondered though if a group pushed the issue in court could they have their 2 year commitments voided because of Dish's continual stunts like this.

Guess I'm gonna have to grab a chain saw...or clean out the DVR. I'll try the simpler plan first.

Most of my stations are now not coming in ("Complete signal loss" immediately goes to "Partial Signal Loss." I'm getting Food Network, HGTV, FX and not much else. I've unplugged the receiver for 10 or more seconds, but getting the same result.
Cleaning out all the shows usually makes things better.

I really need to cut the pines anyway, signal-blockage issues or no.
