Is American Idol really "Live?" If so, that means it is airing in California at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and 6 p.m. on Wednesdays due to the time difference. Or are they airing it pre-taped for the folks out west? If that's the case, then wouldn't you have the problem of the folks on the Wednesday night results show on the east coast knowing who got booted 3 hours before the folks out west know? Which could cause leaks well before the folks out west saw the show.

Always wondered how that worked.
______________

I dont know anything official, but I believe it is live. It is taped for people out on the west coast, so it is then possible for the east coasters to leak info on who got booted to the others, however, since the voting was already done, that information would have no baring on the contest, other then to spoil it for those who want to view it out west.
______________

I believe the performances on Tuesday are pre-recorded; while the Wednesday results show are "Live" for the East Coast and "Live-on-tape" for the West.

I thought that once the "Top 24" competition begins, and until the finale, both the Tuesday and Wednesday "Idol" shows were live (although probably with a seven-second delay) in the Eastern and Central time zones and on tape everywhere else.

In Britain, where the format was launched as "Pop Idol" in 2001, both the performance and results shows are broadcast live on the same evening, but then again, the UK has only one time zone.
