True or false: Sanjaya really is hated by the American public and is being used as nothing more than a publicity stunt to drive an otherwise ho-hum season. A.I. producers, Fox and other who stand to win at this are laughing all the way to the bank. And not to worry: The only losers are the viewers and the contestants who actually deserve a record deal but are sent home in favor of a dog and pony show.

At least those eliminated the last three weeks have the consolation of performing in the annual "Idols Live!" stage show when that circus rolls out later this year. Even Gina said as much when she got the boot last night.

Of course, the problem is, Sanjaya will be on that tour, too.

Just getting in the final 12 almost ensures you a record deal these days. True, it may not be as high a profile of a record label, but hey you'll get signed.

This is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank god for Howard Stern. I just hope he will bring an end to american idol, or at least make Simon go on his show, and beg for him to stop. Until then we will be out there voting for Sanjaya as many times as possible. Stern rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I was flipping channels this afternoon and saw John Gibson's "big story" was the imminent doom of American Idol and they mentioned the Stern factor. I had no idea this was going on because I don't watch the program, but if it ends I will be happy all the in your face coverage of it will be gone.

I doubt Stern is having much impact on that show at all. I think teenage girls are voting for Sanjaya. Shoot, where I work some of the older women are always jumping to his defense whenever someone rips on him. The comment "he's so cute" is thrown around a lot by these people.

Frankly, he's this year's John Stevens or Kevin Covais. He's got a quirky little following that will keep him around until around the top 6 or so.

With the exception of this week, I honestly couldn't complain with the voters on who they kicked off. I think Haley was clearly worse than Gina. However, Gina is a rocker and everytime the rockers do Tony Bennett-like songs, they don't fare well. Last year Chris Daughtry did a GREAT job with "wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong, yet he wound up in the bottom two or 3. (I don't believe that was the week he was voted off either)

I'm not sure why some folks are bent on ending American Idol. Major Bowles started this type of competition for stardom on the radio in the 1930's. Frank Sinatra got his start from that show. When the program transcended to TV, Ted Mack took over the hosting duties. Gladys Knight, along with many others including the Primettes were on that program. The Primettes eventually changed their name to the Supremes. A very young Diana Ross was on that show. Willard Scott years later was the host of that same show on cable. Star Search with Ed McMahon was another talent program.

Why would anyone want the program to fail? For years we've heard about talented people who wanted that big break. At least the program offers somebody that opportunity. Therefore, what is the motive to try and destroy it?

I agree. Why try to ruin something just because you dont like it or just because you can? i know many, myself included who enjoy the program. By the way, I am no fan of Sanjaya. why does Howard Stern want to ruin the show?

Because Howard Stern is a miserable human being who cannot be happy unless he's making someone else miserable too.

But Stern alone isn't doing this; this would have gone nowhere were it not for thousands of mind-numbed suckers who are only too willing to do his bidding, even if it means spending their own money doing so.

It the textbook definition of "mean-spirited".

It's not just Howard Stern but also the folks over at VoteForTheWorst.com. VFTW encourages people to vote for the person they (VFTW) think that the producers would never ever want to become the next American Idol.

I believe the website started up in mid-season 4 of AI and one of their first choices was John Stevens. I believe they eventually went to Scott Savol once Stevens was eliminated.

Last year, they started with Brenna Gethers, then eventually went to Kevin Covais, Kellie Pickler, and finally....Taylor Hicks, your current American Idol.

This season, they were into Chris Sligh at one point, dont recall who their original choice was, and have been going with Sanjaya for several weeks.

Speaking of Howard Stern, how can Sirius continue to harbor this person, whose brand of entertainment I find to be so unwholesome? He makes Don Imus look like an angel.

Oh, and I'm lost. Back to the subject at hand. What's he doing to "American Idol"?

???

Since whether a contestant advances is partially, if not wholly, determined by the votes of members of the general public who call a toll-free phone number for the contestant of their choosing, and since there is no way to restrict how often people vote, Howard Stern has decided to upset the intent of the process by having his listeners call in and vote for Sanjaya. Sanjaya is not even close to being among the most talented, but if Stern and his minions get their way, he'll be the next American Idol.

I think that's pretty lousy, but at the same time, I have to say that the AI producers are getting exactly what they deserve. This is the risk you take by letting the general public determine the outcome of your product.

Chill out, people. I bet you don't pay this much attention doing your homework.

AI has nothing to do with personally gaining heaven - or finding a solution in Iraq. it's nothing more than a over-hyped, over produced, mindless, youth-appeal TV GAME SHOW that makes teen age girls scream.

Howard and AI are HYPE. Howard makes his living because stupid people listen. AI is popular because viewers think IT's REAL. Here's a revelation for you; It's no more real than Mickey Mouse. The more you pay attention to this crap the more tv wins.

HERE IS AN IDEA; Turn OFF the tv and read a BOOK. In 20 years you'll be MUCH smarter because you did.

My bet is that the producers generally pick who THEY want to win, and may be only marginally influenced by the (so called) vote. Who can check the validity of the voting? If you live in Chicago, "real elections" have been this way for years. AI is based on Only phone calls (making the phone company RICH), nothing is on paper.

People can vote 10,000 times (just like Chicago). IT's (supposedly) ENTERTAINMENT, This won't set off a congressional investigation (Congress needs to be investigated first).

AI is just like Sponge-Bob (except sponge Bob is for more intelligent lemmings).

WHO CARES WHO WINS? It won't change the course of humanity. Howard Stern is a sad reflector of what young men think is funny. The "vote for the loser" idea is the best thing Howard has come up with in years.

Someone said "This is the risk you take by letting the general public determine the outcome of your product." HA! Yea, kinda like voting for President, right? The guy with the biggest line of bs and the most MONEY ALWAYS wins.

Boys and girls, MONEY and bs ALWAYS win. Now, let's all watch the next cartoon together.
