American Top 40

There has been a lot of discussion about KNX being the last radio station with studios in Hollywood.

Casey said every week back in the 70s and 80s something along the lines of:
"American Top 40 originates in Hollywood."

I always just assumed that Casey meant "Hollywood" as just a general term for L.A. and it could have been coming from Burbank or Canoga Park.

Does anyone know where AT40 was taped in those days?

Hollywood is everywhere Baby!

I think it was always out of Watermark in L.A.

Weren't the studios at 10700 Ventura Blvd? (I can still see the boxes in my mind!) That's North Hollywood.

But Ventura Blvd doesn't run in NoHo Doc...

Oh sure is does, but soon after the bend around Barham on Cahuenga Blvd it's is known as L.A. Somehow the Original Location for Watermark was on La Cienega?

From Boss Radio Forever:
"American Top 40” ended after 25 years in production. I am the only person that was there for the first and last sessions. I was at the first session, which I produced with Casey Kasem in our little original Watermark studio on La Cienega.

Shadoe Stevens had a much flashier studio on Cahuenga by 1995. Shadoe did the last seven or eight years. A year or two before the end of “American Top 40,” Tom Rounds, who by then was running a company called Radio Express, since he sold Watermark to ABC, could see that “American Top 40”—

No, it's Studio City. That block would be between Vineland Ave. and the entrance road to Universal City Red Line Station. North Hollywood would be more like Magnolia Blvd.<P ID="signature">______________

During most of the earlier 90's, the show was done out of Watermark's studios on Cahuenga in Universal City... that was the Shadoe Stevens era, by the way. At the same time, Watermark's international syndicator, Radio Express, was on a lower floor. Radio Express' owner, Tom Rounds, was the creator of AT40, and created the barter model for syndication as well.

It was across from Universal City Nissan on Cahuenga.

Universal City isn't a real City?

As KM pointed out, that is Studio City, but even Watermark referred to their Address as North Hollywood. Just Google 10700 Ventura Blvd. And how does one explain KPFK in NoHo?. There is more to this Story, perhaps Isaac Lankershim along with I.N. Van Nuys could have told us more?

"What City Please"?

I said that professionally for 2 Years! And Universal City Nissan is listed as
3550 Cahuenga Blvd. West
Los Angeles, CA 90068-1304
Phone: 866-301-1111
Fax: 818-755-7380

That area is strange, go figure?

So, to summarize the confusion ...

Casey Kasem said AT 40 is produced in Hollywood.

Watermark's studios were on Cahuenga Blvd., across from Universal City Nissan.

The former had "North Hollywood" as their location in their address, the latter has "Los Angeles".

None of this matches with the Ventura Blvd. address in Studio City that was originally referenced.

Confused? You won't be, after this episode of Soap!

Seriously ... why are we spending this much time on the subject?<P ID="signature">______________

Part of this is that Studio City, NoHo, West Toluca Lake, Toluca Lake, etc. are "areas" of the City of LA, not separately incorporated municipalities. So, the ZIP codes are technically in LA, just like Hollywood is.

Now I need help!

I didn't come up with that Address, the Doc did. Then I found a whole bunch of Information about Watermark at that exact address. Now I can't find what I'm looking for, except for this? Your thoughts?

Absolutely, of course the same can be said for the whole Valley

But this strange corodoor located just just a Block from the Universal City Studios is in a mysterious Zone. Again is it Universal City, is it Studio City, is it Los Angeles, is it North Hollywood? And this 10700 Ventura Blvd, what's your take on 10700 Ventura Blvd. as the Watermark Address?.

http://leemichaelwithers.tripod.com/watermark.htm

Personally I always thought it was on Cahuenga Blvd West, which is really Ventura Blvd, and always heard it referred to as North Hollywood??

The U.S. Postal Service says 91604 is valid as a ZIP Code for either North Hollywood or Studio City; however, 91604 is based at the Studio City Post Office.

My guess is that Watermark took advantage of the "both community names are valid" situation to "sound" more like they were Hollywood-based.

What I found funny about that site is that Lee is looking for info on Chuck Southcott's old show, when all he needs to do is pick up the phone and call Chuck. <P ID="signature">______________

You're right! But...

Yeah, just outside of North Hollywood.

BUT! I did find some evidence that my memory wasn't that faulty. Check this out:

They must've figured a Hollywood address was cooler than a Studio City one :)

Wu, Deja VU?

Is that not the exact comment our Moderator K.M. Richards posted a couple Hours ago, after I provided the "evidence" in question? No one doubted you, that is until about now :)

No one reads my posts, except those who are looking for rules to argue with me about. :(<P ID="signature">______________

It is also a valid ZIP for W. Toluca Lake, which was carved out from N. Hollywood. I lived there when that happened, so am fairly familiar with it. Of course, all are really in the city of LA, so it is just a distinction based on identifying neighborhoods rather than a political one.

I will ask Tom Rounds on Monday. He created it all.

Geez, I apologize a lot

Sorry. I work the threads from the top down and sometimes I post before I've read them all. Guess I oughta stop that.

My apologies.
