America's Best Music on iHeartRadio

For a while, to find "America's Best Music" on iHeart, the only option was WNAM in the Appleton, Wisconsin, market. It's a Cumulus station and all Cumulus properties are on iHeart. There had been a few others but they either dropped the format or discontinued their iHeartRadio participation.

Now I see KVRE 92.9 in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, is on iHeartRadio. It has local programming from 6 until noon CT. But after that, it carries America's Best Music. You won't find it by putting America's Best Music in the search engine, since it doesn't use that slogan. It calls itself "Central Arkansas' Best Music."

Correction. KVRE has a local DJ in late afternoon.

So ABM is heard for a few hours on KVRE in middays, then in evenings, nights and overnights. Plus most of the weekend.

WNAM has no local DJs. It runs ABM all times except when it has local sports, including a minor league baseball team. WNAM also carries ABC News at the beginning of most hours. KVRE has no news network.

If you use the TuneIn app, WILE FM or KHAR AM stream ABM. WILE usually programs the entire hour after 6 pm and on the weekend; KHAR does not program news at the top of the hour but typically fills the local option slots at :30 and :50.

KHAR shows up as 550 CBS Sports Radio on Tune-In, which I am guessing is their former format.

Appreciate this intel.

Off topic. but curious. Have either of you sampled 'Sunny Radio' on iHeart? If so, wat are your thoughts? I regard it highly as a Soft AC product.

Sunny is good. But I like The Breeze a little better. They are similar but I think Sunny is more soft classic hits, mostly 1970s and 80s. It doesn't go back as far as America's Best Music. Meanwhile, I think The Breeze is a bit more Soft AC, stretching from the 1970s to recently.

ABM does get a little more uptempo at night. I heard "Another One Bites The Dust" the other night. And recently ABM played "Liar" by Three Dog Night. But these uptempo classic hits are rare.

The adding of songs like "Another One Bites The Dust' is why I rarely listen to ABM these days This song is played EVERYWHERE. I listen to ABM for older 60's/70's Soft Oldies/AC. Basically the music other stations stopped playing long ago. I tune in to hear for example Gordon Lightfoot, and NOT Queen.

Well, the uptempo songs are really only occasionally played and only in the evening. I'd say Gordon Lightfoot is played ten times or more for every Queen song. If you don't listen between 7pm and midnight, I think you'll avoid those type of songs. I never hear them overnight or in the daytime.

ABM has definitely added in more soft AC from the 80s and 90s lately. It's not overly noticeable, but every now and then you hear more from Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, and Celine Dion.

On iHeart, I enjoy Rat Pack Radio for standards and older pop. But the playlist is very small and gets repetitive in a hurry if left on in the office or background. Will check out Sunny.

Something must have changed since I last listened. They had a local show early in the day.

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is the only Queen song that should be in that format.

Though the local morning show on the ABM affiliate in my area would play "We are the Champions". The primary format has changed twice since then.

I understand that ABM has to keep from aging out, and then possibly disappear altogether like other syndicated Adult Standards formats. The fact that it's only in the evening when played tells me they are slowly introducing songs like 'Another One Bites The Dust' into the playlist, to either test audience reaction, or gradually evolve the ABM playlist. Or both.

A bunch of songs that were added to the format in the past decade seem to have gone, at least when I have listened. I plan to go to the beach in a few weeks and I pass through an area that still has an affiliate. It is a community radio station with news and information and local commercials.

No way that Another one Bites The Dust should be on ABM. That makes no sense that is heavy into the Carpenters and Barry Manilow.

Was listening to WNAM last night and earlier today on iHeart app. I’d be interested in seeing their research as to what songs/artists don’t test well. I heard many songs, including Superstsr by Carpenters and You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone that we are told test poorly in all (or almost all) other formats.
