"AMERICA'S MOST WANTED" GET THE AXE

Somewhere out there a bunch of fugitives are now breathing a sigh of relief.

Say what you like about this show, it's hard to dispute that it's been very effective
in catching the bad guys.

That Homer guy just doesn't get it. FOX is "reducing" AMW because the show has run it's course
AND THEY THINK THEY CAN DO BETTER.........just like any other shows that is halfway decent
but the networks feel IT AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE.

The other networks were holding out, because no matter what they tried AMW beat it. Now with
that show gone the door is wide open and Saturday night will become more competitive again.
Now, I've said this same thing about 5 times already.

I guess we don't agree Homer. END OF STORY

I don't think you understand how TV works. It's a business. Fox cancelled AMW because it has been losing them money for YEARS (and is a relatively low cost alternative to anything scripted). That's not a secret, it was flat out stated. They said that it has been doing "very well", but that it hasn't been financially viable for a long time. If something that has been doing well isn't financially viable, why would the other 3 networks be rushing to make changes? A network isn't going to lose money on any night and think that it's OK. You might see cheap reality programming on the 4 networks, but its even cheaper to run reruns.

As has been pointed out many times, American Idol is VERY sucessful, magnitudes more than AMW, and yet other networks program against it with very expensive programming (Big Bang Theory comes to mind). Using your logic, shouldn't everyone else just program repeats against AI?

Saying it five times, 50 times or 500 times makes no difference. Thinking the other guys held back because of AMW's staggering success simply reveals a complete lack of business understanding. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) We all have to hold on to some delusions in life.

One truth: they can do better with reruns, because it will help the bottom line.

Fox might decide to move on from AMW, but I believe the show would do better in syndication. I doubt the other 3 networks will pickup the program. I'd be surprised if CW picked it up. I don't expect MNT to pick it up, as they're a syndicator service network. That's why I say it will likely go in syndication, should it return. The only downfall to that is ratings won't be consistent, due to airing in different timeslots in different markets,

Not again! In 1996, John Walsh announced on Rosie O'Donnell's talk show that America's Most Wanted was leaving after that summer, only to return later that fall. Now it's leaving AGAIN?

Surely, there MUST be a better alternative. Here are some ideas: Instead of ending the show, put it on My Network TV or syndicate it (if anyone remembers the 30 minute AMW spinoff Final Justice...)

I remeber that. Yes, I agree don't cancel it completly unless Produstion is a problem. There are plenty of outfits it would fit.My Network TV is one, This would be a good filler show on Fox News network on a Sunday Night or send it to TRU TV.

Yet if MyNetworkTV's now a "syndicator service network", what is a difference between that and regular syndication?

MyNet would be an obvious choice, as Fox already owns it and it always needs new programming.

To me it would be too. That or FX on cable. There was an article in the NY POST Online yesterday that said John Walsh was working with NEWS CORP to continue the AMW Brand with another division of the company.

Like most networks, Fox produces quite a few shows that air on other networks and cable outlets. Even if AMW doesn't land on a News Corp network, it could still be a profitable franchise on another cable channel, or even syndication. I would think its production costs are fairly minimal. Maybe Walsh would have to take a cut in pay.

How About Fox compete against ABC for Saturday Night College Football from August to December and for the rest of the year Fox Does Saturday Night Baseball or Nascar and let Tru TV get America's Most Wanted.
I say it fits the bill for Fox or move America's Most Wanted to Fox News.

But with over 1,100 captures and 1,000+ episodes over those 23 years, AMW will go down as one of the longest-running, non-fictional primetime programs in television history. That's an accomplishment that'll never be equaled.

Does Walsh even get paid for his work, or is he doing this for personal reasons? I would think one of the reasons Walsh was hired as host was that he was the father of Adam Walsh, the child who went missing and was later found dead, leading to campaigns to find missing children.

Maybe they should bring back the show - but with Carson Daly as host. :-X

I doubt doubt Walsh's motives - he's been doing it primarily for personal reasons. But he has become a celebrity of sorts, and I'm sure he gets a commensurate salary for the show, and also makes a good income on personal appearances. Nothing wrong with that.
