America's Most-watched Network: The History Channel?

History is basically Spike TV for Rednecks.

Ha! Zing!
Exactly! :D
Such a shame to see a once-prestegious channel airing all of these shows about mountains and swamps.

I really wish I got H2. History is really promoting its popular historical programs airing there (Modern Marvels, etc.). I bet in a year-18 months all of the history shows will air there exclusively.

And.. I was right.

History was the most-watched network in prime time last week with an average of a little over 6 million viewers.
CBS was second with a little under 6 million viewers.
NBC edged ABC for 3rd..with a bit under 5 million viewers.. but they were both just a little ahead of ESPN.
All three of them were about a million ahead of Fox for the week. And Fox was just a tiny bit ahead of Univision.

All in all, it was a great week for cable. I am still curious if this is the first time a cable network as "won" a week in prime time viewership over
all the broadcast networks. It really doesn't matter that it's against reruns or in the summer.. a first is a first.

yeah, well, when it comes to ratings share, Hitler will only take ya so far...

In the early days of the channel, the joke in our house went roughly as follows...

Suit overheard at History Channel HQ:

"Look at these ratings. They're terrible. UNACCEPTABLE! Quick...get me Hitler's agent on the phone. Right now! GET ME THE BIG MAN!!!!"

Wasn't there a "Hitler rant" on YouTube recently? Something about the low ratings his shows were getting on History? ;D

ha...there are about 150 versions of the "Hitler rant" on YouTube, where he's enraged about everything from Micheal Jackson dying to a wrong TV weather forecast. They are funny...and the German movie it's stolen from, "Downfall," is fascinating.

I had no idea there was a "Hitler Rant" on You Tube.  I'll have to check it out.

Our old household joke from a few years ago had to do with picturing an imaginary History Channel Exec coming up with "more Hitler shows" as the universal default solution to every programming/ratings problem.

Great info...thanks for sharing!
