America's oldest DJ?

Lots of kudos to Luther Masingill for his legendary career.

But how predictable is it that the nation's oldest DJ would be in East Tennessee?

Glenn McNish at WLIL Lenoir City isn't too far behind. IIRC he's nearing the 50 year mark in radio.

I think Glen started at WLIL in '65. So yes he is getting close but hasn't been on the air as a DJ for quite a few years. He still does play-by-play though for LC sports.

Ed Dotson has been morning at WCRK for almost 60 years now.

The station under the longest continuous individual ownership appears to be WNAH of Nashville, put on the air by Van Irwin, Jr., on Christmas Eve in 1949, and still owned by him to this day. Because of the "Jr." suffix to his name, I thought that he might be the son of the original owner, but that does not appear to be the case.

Hoyt Carter started working for WNAH in 1962, when he was still in high school, and as far as I know, is still with them today.

According to WBIR, Hayward Armstrong of WLAR/Athens passed away Tuesday. He spent 50 years on the air there according to the story.

There was a woman in Tillamook OR, who was in her 90s and still on the air. They renamed the station after her and it remained so until several years after her death.

Luther Massingill is king, 70 years of radio. All of it for WDEF in Chattanooga. Doubt this one will ever be topped.
