Amish School Shooting: 3 goes overboard!

I really think that 3 went overboard with its coverage of the Amish school shooting yesterday. However, the only good that came of it was that Dr. Phil got pre-empted.

Who knows? Dr. Phil may do a show about this with friends and family.

Actually, I must give credit to "CBS3" for their coverage of this big and tragic story. While watching 6 and 10, we were amazed to see 5-6 minutes of coverage during the evening news, then coverage of the damn EAGLES! On 10, the segue was so cold that my wife found it offensive ("how could they go straight to football like that?")

Come on, this was (and is) big news that happened on the fringe of the metro. On the radio, KYW and WPHT were fairly lackluster with coverage during the day - treating the story almost as if it were just another story.

For comparison's sake, all major Denver TV and N/T radio stations went wall to wall last week with coverage of the shooting that happened at Platte Canyon HS in Bailey. Which is just as far from downtown Denver as the Amish school is from Center City Philly. And, the Colorado shooting - while horrific - was not as grave as what happened yesterday in Lancaster County.

So, kudos to channel 3 for doing the coverage that the other guys should have been doing. Maybe we'll watch them more often...

WPVI almost had to go to Eagles coverage, the contract with the Eagles basicly requires it....But 3 usualy does an ok job with this kind of news, they do the special opens and bumpers and rejoins...tabloidy, but its what we have come to expect from KYW.

Even if true, it was 10 that did the cold segue and it came off as being very insensitive. What's their excuse?

Although the Inquirer attempted to tell us (in a bumbling way) that Lancaster county is not in the Philly market area - the shootings happened pretty close to the Chester county line. And, pretty much anyone in that area can receive Philly channels on cable or OTA. So, its a LOCAL story. KYW looked at it in that way; the others, well not so much.

Gotta give credit where it's due - channel 3 came out looking the best on this one. And, that surprised me.
