Amp 97.1 is now my favorite station here

Well I am here in L.A. for the funeral and I must say that I am loving Amp 97.1! Yes, power 106 has way more mixes, and plays more electronic content, but Amp is my favorite overall, musically. I love the rhythmic or rhythmic touching on top 40 sound.

KIIS seems pretty cool too, but I'm enjoying Amp the most. Wish they had mix shows.

It's not nearly as exciting in LA as it was back in the mid to late 90's early 2000's, but the stations here are still a bit more intriguing than Phoenix. I haven't really touched 99.1 KGGI yet. KBIG, the adult hits station here is better than KMXP in Phoenix. There's even a 93.5 The Beat fm here in LA too, and KFI has Bill Handel in the Mornings, which is great because I could listen to KFI all night into the morning without wanting to change. Power 106 has the best morning show out of all top 40 or rhythmic stations. I'll probably speak more on this L.A. station situation later. Right now I'm just going to sit back and enjoy what L.A. has to offer. Why? 'Cause I'm in L.A. Trick!

today is a great day to listen.......NO COMMERCIALS!!

I mostly like the amount of electro leaning music they play and the arrangement of their songs. Mostly upbeat stuff. I see they love to play Love Game all the time. The Power 106 noon mix wasn't as exciting as I thought. I think I'd be much more excited to be in San Fransisco, but L.A. has always been good with radio stations and had a good history of playing certain songs that were great. Of course, things have changed, but you can still feel the history of "party station-ness" on certain radio stations. It will be interesting to see what 93.5 The Beat turns out to be. Latino 96.3 is very smart for doing a Back to Work Mix at 1pm. Good job KIIS for having the decency to also mix during the weekdays while being a top 40 format, unlike in some other regions. I'm sure when the time comes, Amp will have very interesting mix shows.

I still cry and have sleepless nights without 97.1 FM Talk. In my opinion that was one of the best stations ever.

I remember back when I had to put up with my favorite station changing formats in 1999 and I am still just now getting completely over it, so this is nothing new to me. Now others are enjoying their 103.9 The Edge, or Edge Radio or whatever it's called now today.

Well, I brought my radio to this house, put it on in the kitchen, and introduced everyone to the new Amp 97.1. They (old folks and young folks) all seemed to enjoy it, dancing, singing, bopping around to all the hits and Love Game that was always on. I like it here, but it's too bad that nobody plays "beautiful" by Akon here. . . ..well I guess Latino 96.3 plays it. They also don't play the new David Guetta ft Kelly Rowland in L.A. There are a few other things I didn't hear here in L.A., but I forget what those songs are at the moment. At least they play Fareast Movement. San Fransisco seems to have more music, and some of the stations I can pick up from San Diego sound pretty good, too. I guess I'm just as well off in Phoenix with the stations we have there. Livvi Franc is already getting attention on one station in Phoenix as of right now.

Anyway, can't wait until the day Amp Radio mixes. Power 106 is doing GREAT with all that they have going on in one day. They sound like the real party station, and so does Amp in many ways. None of the L.A. based stations seem to sound "too ghetto", which to me, is a "radio turn on".

Well, I kinda have the double-whammy with Indie and FM Talk gone :(. I don't think AMP is going to do anything more, I assume they want that Jack-FM like status, except AMP has some DJ's.

AMP Radio will have mixes. Actually, they should start within two weeks. DJ DAZ formerly of Latino 96.3 is gonna be one of the DJ's.

What? Why? They are doing good as they are now. I really don't even see the need for Booker during middays.

I never said middays. lol... Honestly, I have no clue what time the shows will be. For all I know, they could be Friday Night & Saturday Night. It's been known for a while that AMP is/was looking for mixers. I know I personally emailed them and they replied back to me by saying to send in a demo. I never did though.

Oh, I know you never said middays lol. Even though I could care less for top 40 music, I admit, I sent an inquiry into AMP to work at the station in some capacity, but got denied - CBS has this policy where you must have at least one year in college. For the record I'm 18 and graduated from high school this past June. I still don't see why AMP needs mixers lol? Good luck to you, though :)

Just realized... actually they DO play "beautiful" by Akon here. It just came on in the mix on Power 106. What an interesting station this is. They have a new @ 2 mix, then at 3 it's the four hour mix on Power 106, then at 7 they mix the top songs of the day. This does not include the 9pm mix or the 12 o clock party mix or 5:40, 6:40, 7:40 and 8:40 am mix. There's no longer anything in L.A. radio that I can't already at least get in Arizona radio mix shows musically, but damn, Power 106 is a very fun station! They sure do put in a lot of work to make their station fun. If it weren't for them, I'd have to depend on Latino 96.3 for some fun action. Congrats to Power 106 and their new at 2 where they introduced some new music. They sure do play quite a bit of dance and house for a "hip hop" station. Anyway, no matter how much Power 106 mixes or Amp plays electro leaning music, truth is they still lack any station that actually plays real dance music in L.A. It will never again be as good as the days of Groove Radio 103.1 in L.A.radio, by the looks of things, unless..... unless....... well, just look at the direction the sound of hit music is going today. Anyway, I love Amp, but I believe I've spent more time listening to Power 106 since I've been here.

They really need a WiLD 94.9 type station, or even a Movin 99.7 or Energy 92.7 type station in L.A. I also notice they lack an urban / hip hop station in L.A., but I personally couldn't care less about that now. Besides, there are probably those who already believe that Power 106 is a hip hop station to begin with. Good job Power 106 with all the hard work that's put in to make the station fun. In my opinion, it may not compare musically to Power 96 in Miami, but the formatting of 106 itself is more fun.

As fun as certain station in L.A. might be, I must say that.... I think I have more to look forward to on Phoenix radio when it comes to the rhythmic and top 40 sound! I never thought I'd actually be saying this, but this has actually unbelievably become true in 2009! L.A. has a larger variety of stations, but.... I must admit that the Phoenix stations have better mix show music programming, and fits my taste(s) in music more. There is not much more I can get on L.A. radio that I can't already get on Phoenix radio or that I don't already know about. I surely do miss the days when you could hear certain things you would not hear in other states, and when you could hear all the exclusives in mix shows.

To get a good example of what type of rhythmic format I like most, check out Power 96 WPOW in Miami. For top 40, Check out WBBM in Chicago. They know how to do a good mixture and variety of r&b, dance, and hip hop, along with some new hits and things you would not expect. WDRE Party 105.3 is also good, along with many things about Movin 99.7 in San Fransisco.

My top U.S. votes for best stations I know of today go to WDRE and WPOW for now.

I'll wait to see what Amp decides to do with their mix shows once they come. If the original version of Taylor Swift songs are going to be played in any mix show on any station, then that mix show better be REALLY good.

L.A. is bigger and has a lot more going on, but as of right now I have more to look forward to on Phoenix rhythmic/top 40 radio, especially on the weekends. If I move to L.A, I will still have to live with that hope that something will change.... but L.A. surely does have much more potential for the "right sound I'm looking for" to pop up (again). After all, L.A. is pretty much where my favorite sound was once born and perfected.
