This used to happen a lot in the old Top 40 days of KHJ, KRLA, and KFWB. Two stations playing the same song at the same time would happen frequently, "three-fers" less common, but that happened too.

Obviously, each station monitored the other, and they knew that listeners tuned between stations frequently. But I never understood the psychology of repeating the song on purpose. Why not play a different popular Oldie?
