AMP/KISS

It seems like AMP is "copying" what KISS plays to a certain extent. Case in point: one night last week KISS played "Party Rock Anthem" and when that song ended AMP played "Sexy and I Know It" a few minutes later. Things like this seem to happen somewhat frequently to the point where they must be intentional. Is it? If it is, who is sitting at AMP making the song selections live? What is the job title/role of that person at the station?

I'd say that this is a good technique to get another station's listeners. If I'm listening and a song ends by an artist that I like, I might switch to a competitor to see what they are playing. If they are playing a different song by the same artist, I'll probably stick with them.

It's coincidence. No one working there has the time to make those sort of adjustments, and even if they did it there's no benefit to it.

I used to love flipping between Citadel Worcester's "Oldies" 98.9 WORC-FM and "Classic Hits" 100FM The Pike because at least once a week, no exaggeration, you could catch them playing the same song at the same time. Far from intentional, it was pretty embarrassing.

Seriously, with LMFAO such a core artist right now in CHR, that's just coincidental.

Now if you want to look at strategic competitive programming, look at the placement of stop-sets.

Maybe one of the two stations can speed up the music. Then they can claim the Vanilla Ice "I didn't copy Queen" defense from "Behind The Music". ::)
