AMP Radio coming to San Diego

No kidding.
It's not going to work in LA and they only have to compete against KIIS and KPWR there.
I don't think they'd exactly be a big hit in San Diego going up against 3 CHR/Dance stations that are already on..
Actually, I don't think they'd be a big hit in San Diego if they were only going up against ONE other station..
Unless AMP in LA brings in high profile jocks and big money contests (very doubtful) they're wasting their time; they won't be bringing down KIIS or Power 106...

Amp radio will have a hard time finding talent 18- 34 years of age. Radio has not been nurturing talent in the past 10 years. Where are they going to find "Young" talent? It's not out there. They can find the age but the talent will have no clue how to do radio.

That's an unfair statement is so many ways, I don't even know where to start...
Amp/LA is very much a "Jack-like" CHR so far. At first, it was all music and self promotion. Now, they are taking shots at KIIS with liners like, "Hey KIIS, come pay our bills because we aren't running any commercials," or something like that. The original Jack (also CBS owned) found a niche in between mainstream Oldies KRTH and Classic Rock KLOS. Jack is doing well and still has no jocks. Amp appears to be positioned in between CHR KIIS and Rhythmic KPWR and should take some audience from both of them. It may or may not top KIIS or even Power, but I think it will do well. Hard to say when, or if, they will add jocks.

Not sure what you mean by "Jack-Like?" Jack and CHR are two different formats. It's like saying "933" is a "Mix" like format. Doesn't make any sense, unless you mean the way they handle imaging.
That said, I don't see how CBS would even bother with putting an AMP radio in San Diego. The San Diego market does not seem like one that can support two Mainstream CHRs. Technically, there were two when 933 was simulcasting WFLZ in 1996, but back then, Q106 was WAAAAAAAAY more watered down compared to 'FLZ! Now a days, with Blazin 989, plus Z90, 933, Star, JACK, and Sophie (which is owned by CBS for the moment), not to mention Q96 on its rim-shot way, I don't see how there'd be room for an AMP, a NOW or any modern day version of CBS's Hit Radio format. Sophie's format looks very close to what Star has anyway, and CBS is trying to sell Kyxy and Sophie, so what would be the point?
If there was room for another CHR, 100.7 would probably jump on it anyway. AMP isn't coming, don't hold your breath!

Yes, I agree that Jack and CHR are two different formats but what I meant by "Jack-like," was imaging (as you mention) and no jocks. I am not an expert on SD radio so I can't say if another CHR would work there or not. It seems you already have one CHR, two Rhythmics and a couple of Hot AC's already so a second CHR would be hard to fit in.

Hey Garrett, like I said earlier....GOOD LUCK AMP...there is no next generation of radio talent.

Radio people get hung up on labels, but radio listeners don't know CHR from AC, or care - they just know what entertains them and the history of pop music radio (and that's what all those stations are) shows that there's always room for a newcomer to push aside veteran stations.

Nothing, I'm just stating that AMP is the new Jack. AMP is spreading like Jack did. Only AMP is looking for the next generation talent.....and looking ...and looking.
In all fairness, there IS actually a hole for this format in SD.
Z90 and Blazin aren't really targets.
Although Z90 is doing a little better these days... they still take the "We are a RAP station" approach.

KHTS would be the target.
