Amp Radio Mornings

So its been four months since the launch of AMP. Does anybody have any idea when/if they are looking for a morning show? And do you think its going to end up being a music-intensive show.

Maybe they'll pull a "98-7" and go jockless in the mornings. From what I read 98-7's ratings went down when they tried talk in the morning, a sign some people are looking for music. A morning show could be expensive if it doesn't bring in the $$$.

A morning show is a NO for AMP. Kevin Weatherly even said it in an interview with the LA Times. 98-7 is a good example in what AMP is trying to do. Focus on the music, cut on the talk crap. The DJs don't even talk on AMP!

Shhh, don't let the suits in on that or deejays will disappear like dinosaurs. They're already on the endangered species list. Personally I need my job. But really, in my mind it's less a philosophy and more a cost cutting maneuver. Pretty sad. By the way, does that mean that KIIS would do better without a high priced morning show? Oooh Seacrest out! But when you think of it, programmers seem to be moving in the direction of broadcasting nothing more than an iPod with a bigger transmitter. Nothing special about that. Would KHJ have been as good without the Boss Jocks? I think not, but I'm sure everyone has their opinions.

Is it possible to compete with Ryan Seacrest on a chr-station? He seems to be so popular in LA that no personality on Amp would make a difference. If that's the case it's better to go with just music.

AMP has already made it very clear that they are a MUSIC station. They definitely want to be different than KIIS. So, a morning show will not happen!

No jocks wouldn't have worked a few years ago, but now with iPods and the popularity of them, when people listen to a music station they expect music, not talk. If they want talk, its either on a podcast or on AM radio.

And what about weather and traffic info in the morning? It's important that listeners don't need to change the freq. to hear weather and traffic info. Is it only music currently on Amp or also weather and traffic?

While weather and traffic are of concern to adults, I don't think they're of much concern to an audience of 12 to 34 year olds. They'll either get this information from their parents, use a million other technologies that deliver this information or have no use for the information.

Your weather and traffic report for Southern California.... "all freeways are backed up, it's 74 degrees and partly cloudy".
You can use that for pretty much the entire year.

That would be freaking hilarious if that type of report was run. ;D
