AMP & The FCC

The truth is the jock likely knew what he was doing. It wasn't his station to risk. He didn't care.
That's why hotlines rule! Sometimes you use the hotline to fire someone.

So Artie who gets the hotline firing call for losing the Notre Dame sports contract? Art or Artie? oh I know I know there is a scapegoat to offer to the board Jack S for that debacle whew we fooled them again. Maybe you could bring back Leshner, Sullivan, Derue, Daniels and let them run the company, better yet sell the company to them I hear there were offers for some properties, no you bring back a person you swore would never darken your door in Swihart on ZOW and a guy with no real mgmt experience for the cash cow U93..nice! looking to vault down to #5 or #6 in Hungerford eh. you'll be there soon enough without the ND sports and with reports of Art (who was supposed to be retired) darkening the hallways of the stations in SB no doubt to shake things up. Its a long expensive way from the #1 and #2 billing that used to be there. anyone minding the shop in Laf.? Prusator made the most sense there but who would want to go there with the prospect of Purdue sports slipping away to a competitor there as well. Sandy must be a saint in Bloomington but then again there is no other competition. Russ moved to a more lucrative city INDY and is piling up more cash there. I don't know if the IU sports would be enough for him to leave and set up shop in Bton again. you have done your investors proud. A $22 stock at one time now you want to buy it back for 75 cents. How soon Artie before you are in line with all those ex employees and broke investors at the WalMart employment office. When it gets to be 5 shares for a penny let me know I may have some loose change in the seat cushions of the Lexus or Escalade to buy the stations.

I have a friend there in SB that said they had a deal done last Fall with notre dame and someone above killed it. I also heard that senior is in the station all the time and whoever said 'he is retired' was correct. I have encouraged my friend to get out before gmradio's predictions become true.

Arthur, err I mean ColdCoffee. Ex Employees are that so because the terrible operations.

Sandy Zehr is doing an amazing job in Bloomington, and his two stations are carrying most of the company. Last time I checked, that was normally unheard of, but atleast he is sure trying.

The answer for Lafayette was Rick. Under his administration, the cluster finally landed in the black again, ratings were going up, Purdue was to enter contract renewal talks again, etc. Rick had even made serious efforts to gain billing on their AM which is seriously underperforming.

South Bend has only one thing good going for the cluster, and that belongs to Karen Rite. A top notch, amazing PD who can really keep the ship afloat.

GMRadio said it best, the only thing for them to do now is get out of dodge. They have had numerous offers on Lafayette and Bloomington. Im certain offers have came in for South Bend as well in the past. I wouldnt be surprised to see them eventually jump ship in Lafayette. What Rick had fixed has been damaged.

You sure do kiss Karen's butt alot in your posts-- does kentuckymedia have a crush?

Eh, its more or less a lesson in life.

When you treat good people bad, it effects the company morale

Been following the thread...sounds like the biggest losers are the listeners. What ashame.

D'oh! I thought Sandy Zehr was a woman. Maybe that's why I didn't get a call back when I applied for a job there. I addressed the letter to Ms. Zehr. Ugh!

I have a dedicated urge to address a few points on U93 made in the following post [some I have made here on past occasion].

How in charisma’s sake could this have happened? ...Especially given Notre Dame’s heritage of formerly-owning this BIG signal? I guess AMP thinks their 12-24 oriented “excuse” for “pop muzak” is more worthy than a three-hour-on-Saturday-afternoon-per-week Fighting Irish game for a few precious months during the Fall. If they can’t make money off airing the ND football schedule, they exhibit little-ability to market radio period!

—Maybe you could bring back Leshner, Sullivan, Derue, Daniels and let them run the company...

Interesting to note that during the late 70s/early 80s, Shel Leshner was the consummate and undisputed NUMBER ONE BILLING advertising salesperson in South Bend radio while at WRBR. Granted, U93 quickly knocked them off the perch when they entered the format-competitive arena, but that had little-effect on Shel’s personal billing. He left town to manage [and save] Booth’s WJLB in Detroit. Even more interesting, is that he somehow-managed to later fall for Art’s come-on. I remember first-hearing about it and was willing to wager that the love affair WOULDN’T last for long [NO pun intended upon Shel] ;)

—Its a long expensive way from the #1 and #2 billing that used to be there.

DAMN RIGHT, it is a long way—A VERY LONG WAY! Relative to the era, under Bob Nowicki’s guidance, U93 was a market monster – EASILY, the TOP BILLER in northern Indiana... His retirement clearly resulted in the end of a proud era of sales, ratings, and financial success!

—A $22 stock at one time now you want to buy it back for 75 cents... When it gets to be 5 shares for a penny let me know I may have some loose change in the seat cushions of the Lexus or Escalade to buy the stations.

You seem to be describing the performance of much of corporate radio these days... Remember, Radio One is now a penny stock :D AMP may be a bit worse – BUT THEY ARE NOT ALONE... Get out before you start OWING-the-“asset” money upon your visit to the broker

FORT WAYNE
Uhhh, Yeah....Man....Disappointing...wow! Soend 11 million and make 3 million in return. I am not a math major, but that doesnt look good to investors.

LAFAYETTE
They had a serious offer on the table to buy Lafayette (WAZY/WBPE/WSHP/WSHY) for 3.2 million dollars last fall. Pretty good for a cluster with negative cash flow. 2006 was the only positive year for Lafayette under the guidance of market manager Prusator. After his departure the cluster has been bleeding red quarter after quarter.

BLOOMINGTON
This may be their only saving grace. The market continues to post numbers in the black, the county by county ratings are solid and the stations sound decent. Im shocked they actually havent ruined a good thing yet.

SOUTH BEND
Yikes, they lost Notre Dame. How? Why? Was someone really that desperate! My feeling was that they are looking for a way out, one thing you can do is start clearing the decks. By not throwing in the extra baggage in a sale, you get out clean and smooth. If anything this should be devistating to Notre Dame. They lost their heritage radio outlet, in a round about way. Now they are about to lose Purdue, not good!

another ad for a market manager in Lafayette.

I say the next one lasts 7 months and two days. I predict AMP will sell SB and buy in Terre Haute and say, we are a south central Indiana ownership group. Got help us if they break into Evansville..

So U93 just lost yet another sales manager. Apparently, he couldn't take it anymore. Oh, that's not gonna help the already dwindling sales numbers!

If sales were dwindling while he was sales manager, maybe it was time for him to go and bring in someone who can improve sales. You just have to look harder for all those advertisers that failed to pay their bills on other stations, leaving only yours for them to come to. It takes a while before it's obvious the client isn't going to pay, but your sales are going to look good initially. If you're only going to be there six to eight months anyway, why not look good. The next job you only need to tell what your sales were, not what you collected.

I highly doubt it was the sales managers fault, nor Jack Swart, Greg, etc. It belongs to a certain person who didnt know what a radio station was unless it bit him in the ass.

why not have him be in the IBA Hall of Fame they need something for a draw all the old AMPers can come in a see if they can hit Art in the face with a pie, filling in the gap in his upper teeth ala Letterman gets a bonus. Right now who is going to the HOF? They need more foot traffic and paying admission.
