AMP v. Z

Taking a break from AMP Radio, I'm noticing while listening to Z-100 that currently they have tweaked their playlist to play rhythmic hits and throwbacks like AMP is doing. They have included a liner in between songs to listeners stating:

"We are 100 minutes commercial free, every day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - Z-100."

This is because AMP Radio is commercial free all weekend and then commercial free throughout the summer on the weekends.

Is Z already feeling the threat of AMP Radio or gearing up for it or both?

Thoughts?

I don't know why Z100 or KTU would see Amp as a threat. Despite the name change, Amp is still playing the same (terrible) music as when they were called Now.

Its the same mush KTU plays so why is it terrible on AMP? Not so much z100 as they lean both ways not only rhythmic

Z100 has been running 100 minutes commercial-free from 4:30pm-6:10pm ET daily for several years - they're just reiterating this feature.

The commercial-free weekends on WKTU are a new development.

I don't think either station has much to worry about.
Most folks will continue to share amongst the three stations (and others similarly programmed).

Then why would they reiterate now more than ever. Of course it's been around, but why now? How come they weren't this aggressive weeks ago?

I haven't heard the KTU commercial free weekends yet. On Fridays at 5PM all I hear are commercials and on saturdays i hear commercials.
