Here we go again with amp. Did you know as of last week, they are down to one dj in the morning. Letting Marko go, what are they thinking. How can you get a good book with only one on the air dj. Boy they sure are cutting the costs on that market. Wonder what's up?

Lets put it this way it would not be out of the realm of possibility for a wrongful termination lawsuit. 14 years with the same station/cluster. Mark delivered and up until a few years ago after the AMP take over loved the game. He is a solid vet with tons of experience and will be a welcome addition to Fed Med or Schurz in the SB market. Good luck to you Mark!

They are looking to pick up some more stations in Ft Wayne, so they have to $ave those dollar$ I guess. I would think they would fix the stations they have first.

Maybe someone will buy all of the stations and get them out of the mess Art has put them into. Did you know the word on the grapevine is that they are also moving the SB station?????????????

Wrongful termination, especially in radio, is nearly impossible to prove. As backward as AMP is, even THEY wouldnt leave themselves open to something like that. Remember, you dont have to provide a reason for firing someone. You only need a reason for the firing if the company is denying unemployment.
______________

What SB move? Where?

Only recent change is WHLY to WWLV on 1620 and format change from Standards to simulcast of U93 for 3 weeks or so to the Old Love Songs 102.3 format. Now with Marko gone from WZOW, are there any other DJ's there (not counting Woody)? Could this signal a format change in the future?

Lets get more data plz

I would like to suggest that we get a team of scientists and have them study Art and his "business strategies." Then, alongside this experiment, let's get some "bets" down on how quickly these highly-trained scientists throw their hands in the air and give up. Just a thought...

Heard WAZY Lafayette Saturday afternoon for the first time in a couple of years. What a waste. Strictly juke box. Liners/promos/commercials. NO Jocks...NO personality. 50,000 wasted watts.

I, for one, like Arts' business practices...it helps the rest of us!! :)

They are moving the whole station and offices to michigan st in south bend. how can you do that if you have no one to move. Woody is the only dj on zow now, that will sound good voicetracked all day...when will he leave? that would be an interesting move.

WAZY-FM has hit an all-time low! Everything about them sounds terrible and extremely amateur. It's sad when a dinky 2200 WATT station is kicking the ass of a 50000er. Just how bad is it you might ask... the best sound out of the station is JB's Open House Party. Actually, Crawfordsville's CD-106.3 sounds 10x better.

I think he's bleeding money all over the place. Lets see 1 jock on ZOW in South Bend, Cutting Lafayette down to 1 jock. 1 jock on BTU and SHY in Fort Wayne. There is no way cutting a couple of people here and there is ever going to get him anywhere near enough money to buy any station in Fort Wayne. To me it looks more like a ploy to make the books better so he can sell to someone else.... think about it.

Crawfordsville's

HOLY CRAP!

Last time I heard that station it was "Hot 106point3" and was GOD AWFUL!

The liner guy sounded like a crappy overnight jock...I think some dude who left The Rocket was PD there at the time...I might be off on that.

Thanks for the flashback...don't think back to listening to Crawfordsville radio very often :)

Re: AMP overhaul in South Bend-read/comment

Well, lets see. Could this be the start, not only for a physical move of the radio station (as mentioned in a earlier reply), but a overhaul of AMP's South Bend Programming?

I suspect a pattern or master plan here. Any agreement on this or disagreement on this theory (and yes it is only a theory).

Step 1: Drop 1620 Standards format (occurred Early Feb. 06)
Step 2: Prepare to ditch 1580 so move U93 (AM) to 1620 for a spell till Love Songs start. (Occurred shortly thereafter)
Step 3: Move Sports Radio 1580 to 1490 (occurred 2 weeks after 1620 ended).
Step 4: Begin Love Songs 1620 WWLV (bring it out of the 'stench.' (format change back in 2004 from Light contemp. to simulcast of WZOW). (Began Last Thursday).
Step 5: Get Rid of Marko and leave 1 DJ at the station WZOW (Woody). (Reported this last weekend).

Now here is my theory of what I now think could be next:
Could WZOW be next in the chopping block for a format change. 1 DJ. Hummmmm?
After that, what's next [pooh quote] "Think Think Think."[/pooh quote] AH Yes, kill/destroy U93 and change its format!!!

They will probably keep ZOW the way it is. AMP's Lafayette classic rock station has, with the exception of a couple of occasions, had only one jock on in the afternoons...Steve Clark, The Rocket's PD. Then again, they also have Bob & Tom on in the mornings so both prime dayparts are covered with some sort of a jock presence.

What I don't understand is if AMP wants to keep their stations minimally staffed from an on-air standpoint company-wide, why not pay the existing jocks a little more from Lafayette, Bloomington, South Bend, and Fort Wayne and have them voicetrack a shift or two for the other AMP stations. That way, at least it would appear like the stations are manned 24/7 and, if the v/ts are done correctly, it may bring a little something extra to the table that's allegedly missing with some of their stations.
Edited by Apollo79 on 03/22/06 06:29 PM.

What is it about Z96-5 sounds Terrible and amateur? Give me an example of how a station with a morning guy from market # 3 and an afternoon guy from market #26 is sounding terrible? And when you do so, can you do it while not hiding behind a screen name so nobody knows who you are? Do me a favor....You do some compelling radio and get back to me.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Crawfordsville's CHR is 10 times better than WAZY. CD 106.3 IS 10 times better than the old Hot 106.3, however. Jarad Allen really turned the on-air presentation of that station (and sister station, Thunder 103.9) around under his watch, which is a lot more than many who came before ever did. Kudos to him for WCDQ and for WIMC, which sounds 1000 times better than it did before. It'll be interesting to see what happens once they find a successor for the PD/OM position. Hopefully, they'll maintain the status quo or raise the bar.

Onto Z 96-5, it's not a bad station in the least. Before B102.9 started using their new imaging package, Z sounded like the more hip, fun CHR. The two stations now sound fairly comparable with one another.

IMO, Z is right on track with getting on new music and everything else that makes a good CHR. Yes, it would be nice to hear some more weekday and weekend talent on the station, but WAZY's lack of deejays on middays and weekends certainly isn't hurting their numbers. Even though I and many would like to see those shifts filled with upbeat personalities instead of liners between songs and commercials, I just don't see AMP forking over the dollars to supply such a local line-up, especially if they are making budget cuts. To me, the only real thing that needs to happen over there is a logo change that actually depicts them as "Z 96-5," but that's an imaging issue, not programming.
