ampd in la now fm in ny when is boston joining in????

Top 40 back on 103.3? WOULDN'T THAT BE A KICK IN THE PANTS FOR KISS !?!?
And, the "Power" name would fit right in...

But I bet they throw it on ZLX. No offense to the hard working people at WZLX, but it seems to be the only logical fit, imo. If you've got to rockers, BCN and ZLX? My money's on blowing up ZLX.

Again, apologies to all the hard working people at WZLX, I hope I'm wrong.

103.3 or 98.5 .

You're dreaming. If 103.3 is anywhere near as good as CBS-FM, it's not going anywhere. 98.5 is already one step away from CHR anyway, last I heard it.

Check out the PPM numbers in the thread below. WBMX and WODS did extremely well, with WBZ and WZLX performing strong as well.

It seems as though the storied WBCN is the weak link. Judging from the stations blown up in New York and Los Angeles, it seems as though Boston could be CBS' next market to shake things up, and 104.1 the station.

bcn always seems to be inthe middle of everything people on here have seculated from turning into free fm to maybe putting the bruins on their next year if i could pick the station wbcn or wods would be it i dont like the music on bcn and wods would be going back to its roots, but inthe end wbcn is gonna be gone and a now or hot top 40 station will be in its place

a month ago BMX seemed like the logical choice. But it certainly does seem now that BCN is the best candidate for all of the aformentioned reasons. Also, with WAAF already doing better covering Active, FNX / BOS leaning Alternative, and WZLX covering Classic, the rock hole is well filled. Patriots on ZLX shouldn't be an issue right?

So, how would the CBS cluster fair losing the males and gaining young females with a 104.1 CHR?

I stand corrected.
Glad you to hear it.

Boston's Contemporary Now station!

The NEW WBCN!

Why should the Pats have to move?

Keep the call letters and move the Rumble to ZLX

Enough...just stop it...Back in the fall of 1978, everyone who had an opinion insisted that new ownership was going to flip WBCN to a full time disco format. The rumor raged for months...Last time I checked...WBCN has remained Rock for the past thirty years or so...Furthermore, it would be quite a battle for anybody to even attempt to dislodge WJMN and WXKS at this point. I take this idea about as seriously as all of the other WBCN format flip rumors that I have heard suggested over the years...particularly on this board....

Your argument seems reasonable and logical except one point that you didn't take into consideration. CBS is going up against the likes of Z100 and KIIS-FM in NYC and LA. Thus, they are obviously ready and willing to wage the type of battle that would entail taking on Jam'n and Kiss 108. This still doesn't necessarily mean that they WILL flip WBCN. My point really is that the possibility shouldn't be counted out though. There are any number of possibilities for how they could restructure their cluster, especially as it's a pretty big one...

How so? Jam'n and Kiss both have strong morning shows, and Kiss has strong PM drive, but the rest of the day is nothing incredible (read: Ryan Seacrest, out-of-town VT on Jam'n). Given the numbers that these two stations are pulling, and WBCN's current PPM battle for virtually last place among Boston FMs with WAAF, it would seem silly for CBS to let this opportunity pass by.

Check out the website for 97.1 AMP Radio. Notice how the station connects to the local LA audience with celebrity restaurant suggestions, man-on-the-street fashion ideas, quick road trips, and street team appearances. In a vibrant city like Boston, the local angle combined with a much-needed CC competitor could really succeed on 104.1.

i agree i think boston needs a new station to take on jamn/kiss and hire away some talent from thoses channels that may have been let go. and perhaps try to bring back wzou call letters come on cbs give us a new station to hear and set up the blogs and man onthe street stuff. the only thing i wonder is toucher and rich just moved to mornings what would happen to them?

You are correct...they certainly could decide to go after those stations. I just doubt that it will be WBCN that gets blown up, in spite of their somewhat challenged ratings. I would guess that 98.5 would be the most likely candidate, since as some other posters have noted, they are already close to CHR....

I don't think the AMP radio format will happen in Boston the way it did in LA and New York. However, I do think that you could see BMX evolve into a CHR. If you go back and look at the history of Boston radio, another CBS owned radio station, WEEI FM was a sort of Hot AC (before Hot AC existed), back in 1982. CBS moved it closer to Top 40 and then went full throttle with the call letter change to HTT. Back then, they couldn't beat Kiss. I see that happening again with Mix 98.5, sort of evolving as not to lose the audience they have. But this time, I think Kiss is vulnerable. Remember, same market managers, and if you listen to the change over to 92.3 Now, CBS made fun of Elvis Duran, and pointed out that "Z100 went on the air in 1983, and that was 30 years ago."

Well, Kiss 108 went on the air in 1978, and Matty has been the morning guy just about as long.
"Holy Potatoes" is right...!

My guess is if any station flips to Top 40 it will be WBCN. The situation is similar to New York. CBS dumped the low rated rock station not the mediocre rated AC. I realize WBCN has a much longer, more storied history than WXRK had. But that only counts for so much, Radio is a business not a museum.

WBMX is doing well, why mess with it? Especially because the demos are so attractive. CBS kept FRESH/NY so why would they change MIX a station that's more successful?

I see some people comment that MIX is close to CHR. Not really, especially compared to the breed of Top 40 CBS has been flipping stations to. Something that stands out about NOW/NY and AMP/LA is they heavily lean rhythmic and don't play pop rock like the Fray (I must be the only one who can't stand "You Found Me", it's my least favorite song of 2009 so far). Mix would share very little music with the new station besides a couple of songs like "Just Dance" and "Single Ladies'. MIX could even tweak a little and drop anything rhythmic sounding so there would be little overlap.
