Oh.. Ok. Must have missed that post. Yeah I was just flipping around the dial and I landed on some weird station by chance. I said...hmmmm I wonder what this is? The next thing I heard was Amy. I also hear Big John doing Traffic for Channel 12 now too. I guess he works for Metro... right? I'm sure someone here probably mentioned that too. Sometimes I just skim around the board and miss stuff.

Ok, I sense some sarcasm here.WJZS is all VT'ed.There playlist almost mimics B101's at last check that I tuned in.The audio is not that great but I hate to say it but it does sound better than B101's blah imaging.

lol.... I honestly wasn't even being sarcastic. Believe it or not even I sometimes don't click on certain topics if the subject doesn't interest me. I don't know where I was getting the station from though. I did some research and apparently they also beam from a 55 Watt transmitter in Newport in addition to the main transmitter on Block Island. I have a GE Super Radio that does pick up some distant signals. So I can't even be sure what transmitter I was tuned into. There was some static, but I did manage to make it listenable. I'm pretty sure I had to be tuned into Block Island though because I'm really not close enough to Newport where I should be picking up 55 watts. Not even close.

The station runs an ad in the Projo listing the artists they play and it seems closer to what Cool 102 does. Anyway they don't seem to stick with anything very long between the music format and a morning show that wobbled from live to syndicated and back to live again.

I heard Amy works with my old Boss who hired me at WSAR. His name is Art Berluti and he's one of the nicest guys I've met in Radio. He's now doing the morning show on that station. He always kept his word to me and he made working there fun. I have nothing but Kudos for that man. He's such a good guy.

One time during a blizzard he didn't want me driving home. He wanted me to just sleep at the station and stay where it was safe. The roads were Crazy. We are talking about a blinding snowstorm where you need to drive 5 Miles per hour because you can't see more than 5 feet ahead of you. If I had any sense that night I would have just hung out with Art and stayed. But I figured that I could make the 10 mile drive home. Luckily I did make it home safely.

Art wanted me to call him as soon as I arrived home. He was genuinely worried about me. I'll never forget it. I never told Art this at the time, but the guy really felt like family to me. He sets a perfect example of what Radio station management should be about. The guy has compassion and a heart. It felt good to come to work knowing that my boss wasn't an A-Hole. I felt bad when he quit a few months after I was hired. But I'll always remember Art Berlutti as a guy who is 100%CLASS.

I've been dying to find out; where does Chris DePaolo fit into all this? Or does he? I'm just trying to put 2+2 together and I'm hoping Chris is involved. I would just love to know that Chris has finally landed a commercial frequency. I don't know anyone who has worked harder and longer, or given more "newbies" a shot than Chris, and just in case I'm right in my guessing, congratulations, well wishes, and more to him.

Chris Dipaola does not fit into anything WJZS does. No conection at all.The only connection is that Chris Took the WBLQ calls from 99.3 when we were all let go and Chris got approval for 88.1 in Westerly.He sold 88.1 to K-Love.They moved the transmitter to some hill in nearby Connecticut.

Chris has received FCC approval for the old WERI 1230 freq in Westerly months ago but cant take over until Patrick Lynch Rhode Islands AG approves the sale.

Chris currently operates on 96.7 in Ashaway as WBLQ-LPFM.

And on the subject of newbies it's good that WJZS can get some experienced people on, albeit voicetracked, but it's a case where you have a station that is in a position to give newbies a start in the business......but it isn't going to happen as long as experienced people keep getting ousted from Providence. It's nice that people like Amy and Big John can stay on the radio and pick up a few extra bucks but when the small stations are getting the pros to do it where are the newbies starting out?

Gotta chime in about Art B.A fun guy to work with, and he knows his stuff.Thought WADK and 99.3 were 2 good examples of what small market radio should be. RIP Bob Sullivan. I have one of his funny pieces around here someplace....
