An All Drake Takeover In Scranton

It is an FM translator. According to Radio-Locator, W280CV had been rebroadcasting WKRZ-HD3. It had been carrying a Christian Contemporary format from the Family Life Network. That network has so many FM stations in Pennsylvania and New York State that it probably doesn't need WKRZ's HD subchannel.

Northeast PA is very white. According to Nielsen, the Wilkes-Barre - Scranton market is only 6% black and 13% Hispanic. Yes, young white folks listen to Hip Hop, too. But it will be interesting to see what the translator finally chooses for its format.

Remember, the enormous majority of Hispanics are reported as being racially white by the Census. So we kinda' have to say "non-Hispanic white" to differentiate.

The Census Bureau is finally fixing that error for 2030. Only took em half a century.

And they may have made it more politically correct, but not statistically sound.

"Hispanic" (an American construct) and "Latino" are cultural identities. One may be Hispanic and Black, white, Asian, Indigenous or any combination of these. The only qualification is coming from or being of the heritage of one of the Spanish speaking nations or, historically, territories in the Western Hemisphere.

In other words, the terms have nothing to do with "race". They have to do with culture or a cultural heritage that is extremely varied. It ranges from the AfroAntillean influences in the Greater Antilles to the Indigenous cultures from Mexico to Chile.

I do not see this as a "fix" any more than I see the "fix" my dog had as an "improvement".

And I think I am qualified to speak as I have worked in every free country in Latin America, my kids are Hispanic, my wife is Hispanic, most of my friends are Hispanic and after over 60 years in Latin America and Hispanic communities in the U.S., I am culturally Hispanic myself.
