Congrats to Walter Sabo The Father of Modern Day Talk radio for coming up with the NJ101.5 format. A format that even with host changes and decades on the air still stands the test of time.
Didn’t want to rain on their parade yesterday but to the novice looking at the ratings it appears NJ101.5 did get good numbers in Monmouth Ocean. To most seasoned pros you can see how this happened. Send a thank you card to Greater Media who flipped the format at JRZ, no Magic for Greater Media. It was nothing that NJ101.5 did; it had more to do with mistakes by Greater Media.
Getting the numbers into the 7’s at NJ101.5 is nothing new; when Walter Sabo was there it was a very common occurrence, now it’s funny that they’re partying like it’s 1999, just look back at the numbers. The trick now for NJ101.5 is keeping the numbers in the 7’s and that’s what Walter did there for many years.
Just keep in mind this doesn’t change their reality that in the much bigger market of M/S/U NJ101.5 has falling cume in June and is being beaten IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD by New York radio stations who aren’t making dumb mistakes like Greater Media
On a positive note, Eric Scott continues to be the MVP there and Ken Matthews sounded much better than Casey yesterday. Ken without question appeals more to those prized female listeners.
Radio is a business, not a hobby
