I'll bet Stan Roberts, a legend in Buffalo radio, is delighted to have his name in the public eye once again. Who knows? It might help him make more sales for the Entercom group and put more commission money in his pocket.
Since I'm the one who started it all those years ago. . I can attest. The article was RIGHT ON THE MONEY. A young budding PD who wanted to do what his bosses thought was the right thing-it was the perfect storm. When Pergament called (the first time) I told him there was "nothing to the story"...which was wrong. One thing they didn't teach back then (and probably don't teach now) is how to deal with other media. I've learned since how to at least be more up front. Perfect? Nope. Better? I hope so. Alan was very generous in this article and Stan proved what a gentleman he is . Regardless of his successes since leaving 'GR-he should probably have made twice as much.
Classy comment Dave. I grew up listening to Stan Roberts along with Joey and Danny on WKBW. Somebody from outside of Buffalo might not get them.
While KB was my station in the '60's, WGR would have been my station in in the '70's. Great radio for sure, and probably the trifecta of WGR-WBEN-WKBW actually kept people away from FM a little longer than most other markets.
