An appreciation to the folks at KB/1520

I am sad that WWKB has dumped what was probably the best AM oldies station in America, "Buffalo's Klassic KB/1520". No doubt, this was a pre-emptive strike against WHLD, who was planning to go with liberal talk next Monday. Now, Buffalo has TWO LIBERAL talkers and NO oldies left.

For those of us who loved 'KB at night, we will feel the pain as well. Instead of Jackson Armstrong, we'll be stuck with satellite fed dreck all night long. If Entercom thinks that this was a good idea, they'll be sorely mistaken come the next book. I will miss those weather jingles, "Pulse Beat News", Tom's Saturday/Sunday Night Oldies Show and more. To the great on-air staff of "Buffalo's Klassic 'KB/1520", I wish to say that you folks were the greatest! I hope we'll hear you again down the old log sheet. You will be missed.

For those closer to Niagara falls, isn't 1440 still an option?
Doesn't that station still play the oldies?
Does 1440 reach Buffalo?
(I havn't been to Buffalo in a while, so I've forgotten the actual signal strength of 1440.)

Well said Peter! I loved what they had done by "bringing back" the old KB. On a clear winter night, you could listen and almost pretend it was 1970 (or so). They even played some of the old local ads and jingles. The jocks were great and the music sounded great.

Gee, I'm sure were MUCH better off with liberal bird feed. Thanks for making that decision for me and for all others in earshot of the 1520 blowtorch Entercom! Idiots.

They are low at night, but maybe 500-1000 during the day. Based in West Senenca, NY, you can get them clear during the day throughout the metro.

Yes, they still throw down old time rock/roll.

I just don't see what the real effect of a preemptive strike is anyhow... the listener ...at least the discerning one... will gravitate to the better product and if Marks and WHLD have something better and more "local" then people will listen to HLD over KB.

And forgive me if it's on another post, to change the subject, but what might the logic have been to switch WECK to country? Large potential classic country listenership with bucks to spend at sponsors in WNY?... I don't see it in WNY.

Those of us who are out of market (and there were plenty of us out here listening to KBRadio 15) don't figure into business decisions. But this was a unique station that will be sorely missed. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening for the last three years.
