An Early Valentine's Treat For DXers Down South

Anyone within earshot of KTRH Houston might want to check their dial for a rare chance to log something on 740 that you usually can't. At a 10:10 CDT check, KTRH was off the air. As I type this, we are at 10:41, and KTRH remains off. To answer the question some may pose, in Houston, I am receiving a faint KRMG Tulsa, with what sounds like Salsa music attempting to rise above the weak signal from KRMG. It'd be interesting to hear from San Antonio and Louisiana with KTRH temporarily missing from the dial.

Dang. Wish I'd read this thread earlier. KTRH is on and airing Clyde Lewis's Ground Zero show.

Last night while I was driving home from Comfort, TX, 1250 KZDC was off air for a while. I managed to catch KPZK, a hiphop station in Little Rock, and a presumed, though never confirmed, classic country KZHN in Paris, TX. They were taking turns fighting with (and losing to) KDEI in Port Arthur.

Last night was a good opening from the North. Usually - nighttime reception in Houston favors the South. Things like WCCO were there that are usually buried in Spanish language stuff.

When I lived in Houston, specifically the League City/Friendswood area, KTRH was a blaster day and night. Helped that about 150K or more ERP blanketed me day and night.
I don't remember hearing KTRH off the air when I was down there but I do remember hearing some very faint garble beneath KTRH along 59 in the Galleria area on more than one occasion. It wasn't nearly enough to be distracting, but I remember it being there, and that was in that very powerful main lobe. It wasn't close to strong enough for me to identify.

I'm located a little better than 9 miles due north of downtown Houston. KTRH stands all alone day and night here, and last night was a very rare occurrence for KTRH. I first caught it off at 20:10, then again at 22:25, & again at 22:40. By the next check at 23:20, KTRH had returned and was in a commercial break. A window of under an hour for me to hear the weak KRMG mixing with wherever the Salsa music was coming from. I don't know how long it had been off prior to 20:10, but assume that it was some type of maintenance that required the signal to be shut down. Given the late hour, I doubt there were many other Houstonians, besides myself and a handful of like-minded nerds that might have found themselves with nothing better to do than hit a seek button on a receiver, who even noticed KTRH was briefly M.I.A..

I pulled in KCBS in Las Cruces, NM on my old GE SuperRadio in the 90's. It wasn't particularly strong, but it was there.

Interestingly, KTRH would be there until close to Las Cruces sunset; then KCBS would be on top.

This was in January of 95.
