An idea for sports

Here's an idea for My Network TV: Have the network air sporting events on Saturday night in primetime. The NBA season will be up and running soon, and come Spring 2012, it could air Saturday baseball games...

Here's my idea: cover the game instead of constantly plugging advertisers. Watching FOX's MLB coverage, I have no clue whether I'm watching a baseball game or a three-hour DirecTV infomercial.

Fixed ;D

Only if MLB and Fox allow it to air a regional game that the local Fox station doesn't run. File this under "fat chance."

It looks like the broadcast networks ought to look into doing more with sports in prine time on Saturdays. I had thought that a network should carry college football games on Saturday nights for several years before ABC finally did it. Once the NBA lockout is over they could consider Saturday night NBA basketball as well, and possibly baseball or NASCAR racing during the time between basketball and fooball. It definitely can't do any worse than the reruns and occasional movies that fill most Saturday nights now.

I don't think an also-ran network like MyTV would want to shell out the rights fees
required to land something like the NBA. As it is some cable systems may drop ESPN
because the escalating rights fees are making them too expensive.

One slight problem to this logic.....

You are aware the NBA is in the middle of a lockout which could jeopardize the entire season - ARE you?

Not only that but ESPN & TNT have the only network rights to nationally televised NBA games

Cheers & 73 ;D

Whoops-- I remember hearing about it during the NFL lockout, but then not so much later on. I guess I didn't realize that this was still going on let alone things could get much worse.

Anyway, I just heard that the UFC struck a deal with the networks of Newscorp. Maybe My Network TV could air some of these fights given it's experience with the similar IFL...

Friday and Saturday nights are good for sports on tv since so few entertainment shows work there. I think Fox could boost MyNetwork TV by moving the baseball LCS games there on weekdays and only have Fox run the weekend games and the World Series.

Baseball wouldn't agree to that because of the national poor coverage that My has. I don't think the My affiliates would be too happy about it either.

Where are you getting your news (Obviously it's not very fast as that's WEEKS old)

Anyway, the deal only covers FOX though I suspect they might farm out some fights to MyNetwork TV should there be an unexpected conflict with an LCS or World Series game being made up due to a rainout or a day game being resumed after a rain delay though

Having said that, they'd likely move the fight over to FX before they'd move it to MyNetwork TV in the event of either of the above situations

Cheers & 73 ;D

MLB would never go along with this

Besides MLB Network has more viewers & is in more homes than MyNetwork TV does & is

Cheers & 73 ;D
