An Idea For WWOR/9: "The Simpsons" Weeknights At 10 PM

I know WWOR/9 is reserved for second-tier or less programs or shows recycled from WNYW/5, but think about the young demos that might watch WPIX/11's 10 PM news... they could opt for "Simpsons" reruns instead - thus protecting Channel 5's news at 10 PM.

Your thoughts?

The entire purpose (as far as News Corp is concerned) of WWOR is to protect WNYW...by keeping a powerful independent from popping up on the frequency. It's a write-off for Murdoch and keeps any real competition for syndicated fare away from Channel 5.

I've noticed over the past few months that My9's news at 11pm is becoming very NJ focused. I think this is a good move. I actually changed my viewing habits to watch My9 at 11pm instead of WABC. Now I'm only watching WABC at 5pm.

Well, wouldn't it be in their best interest to protect the Channel 5 10 PM news by scheduling "Simpsons" reruns on Channel 9, and possibly lure potential viewers away from Channel 11's new, young-demographic-oriented newscast? You wouldn't suppose these reruns would get a higher rating than Channel 5's news, would you?

No, but moving "Simpsons" reruns to Channel 9 would raise numbers for Channel 9 and lower numbers for Channel 5 "Simpsons" reruns elsewhere in the schedule.

Remember: for News Corp the objective of owning Channel 9 is solely to keep anyone else from doing anything with Channel 9, and to keep as many people from watching Channel 9 as much as possible to avoid competition for Channel 5.

Not if Channel 9 is airing different (and perhaps older) episodes...

The older episodes are better! I went to the UK and saw a few older ones there broadcast - do the older ones get broadcast here? Or, is it only avail via DVD? My TiVo guide description of The Simpsons rerun episodes on WTXF seem to be from 2006 or so, not the early-mid 90s.
